Football Watching as Entertaining Action
Introduction.
Sports are an important aspect of recreational activity as well as cultural affairs. With the technological advancements, there are many different sports activities that are in the world today. However, an exceptional sporting exercise that is enthralling to a lot of people currently is soccer. As an individual, I am more attracted to watching football, either as a fan on the pitch, or through the live broadcasts.
It means that every weekend I am glued to my television to watch the football actions of different teams from England which participate in the country’s top league tournament. Interestingly, soccer is characterized by high levels of entertainment, artistry, suspense and surprise, variability between the ball games, as well as fierce resistance, all of which make people fascinated to watching it. Notably, an element of the game such as the mastery of physical skills for performing football techniques by players contribute to the desirable qualities that make watching of football games to be thrilling.
Reasons Why Football Watching is Fascinating
Entertainment factor.
As a part of recreational activity, football watching is an entertaining action to the spectators and also the fans that follow live matches through broadcasts. For most fanatics, there is nothing that makes a game to be enjoyable more than observing a team scoring. They watch as the ball is chipped from side to side, pinging all over the penalty area, the goalkeepers making extraordinary saves, and the ball clearing from the offline (“Why is Football”).
All the mentioned football actions give the viewer high levels of excitement and makes soccer to be one of the entertaining sports in the world. In addition, football is ostensibly easy to watch because of the extensive playing space in the soccer pitch or when watched through television (“Why is Football”). For instance, a televised broadcast shows a green pitch, magnificent stadia, and the fanatics signing or cheering. Indeed, comparing the scenes of an on-going football match to that of another game, the former is livelier. Therefore, it leaves no doubt that soccer is an entertaining sport.
Players’ Artistry
Footballers are known to possess great creative skills and abilities that make the football lovers to identify with them. Great passes, headers and goals that are scored by some of the players are some of the considerations that football fans give to soccer. Therefore, artistry of the players cements the existing football lovers’ passion and the game. For instance, it is undeniable that the thrill factor can be greatly reduced when an individual watches a match that had already been played and the result is known (“Why is Football”). Nevertheless, if the artistic characteristic is still in the game, that is enough to keep one entertained. This is a fact which is evident in the manner in some football fans do watch games which were played a long time before they were born because of a distinguishable skill that was showed by one or more players (“Why is Football”). Without doubt, an exemplary skill portrayed in a match, keeps the fanatics entertained for long periods of time and even the generations to come.
Suspense and Surprises
Again, watching a football match can be compared to reading an exciting story with uncertainties on its flow of events. It means that soccer is characterized by surprises and suspense, especially for someone who is watching a live game. Strikingly, football has more surprises and suspense compared to other ball games (“Why is Football”).
For example, handball, table tennis, and volleyball have high scores and therefore the tension of the game can be lost if a specific team or player runs-up a healthy lead. Comparably, in football games the scores are actually close with each goal carrying a significant weight in the game. As such, if a team goes one-nil or even two-nil, there is a lot of tension in the game when the opposition pulls a goal back because things can speedily change to either team’s favor (“Why is Football”). Moreover, there is an element of luck that results in many surprises in a football game. To illustrate, slight deflections can lead to shock goals or a poor referring decision may grant the underdogs an advantage over their rivals (“Why is Football”). Accordingly, suspense and surprises create the strong urge for one to continue watching the game.
Teams Variability
Many factors contribute to results that are witnessed from a soccer match. Of these, variability between teams and games is a factor that makes many fanatics be attracted to soccer. With all the transformative aspects of every soccer match, each ball game is different and each one repeated is not exactly the same (“Why is Football”). This quality of football ensures that watching of successive football games does not become tedious. The numbers of players in a football pitch are more compared to those of tennis and badminton, and consequently increased interactions among the players making it exciting (“Why is Football”).
The playing field is not divided by nets and the players can penetrate each team’s section and create formidable formations (“Why is Football”). The extensiveness of the playing field is enough for diverse and dramatic activities of the players to create variability from one game to another. Furthermore, there exist different ways through which one may score. Headers, deflections, long and short passes, deflections, and penalties are all techniques of balls entering the goal. Inarguably, the transformative aspects of football enable breakage of the monotony of soccer, more so from watching one game to the next.
Feral Resistance
Another quality of football as a game is that every team puts up a fierce resistance against each other. In soccer, the two meeting teams’ players compete on the pitch and do not rush to the finish line as competitors in athletics do (“Why is Football”). Not only that, players directly face one another as opposed to volleyball where they face each other through the middle net. The direct contact between football players makes it a fierce competition (“Why is Football”).
As a matter of fact, every sporting activity is a matter of competition but no sport exhibits intense battling than soccer. Even the physical antagonistic martial arts exercises such as karate and, boxing, and judo are far much behind soccer in terms of combat and attractiveness (“Why is Football”). The explanation for this peculiarity is that opposition in football is collective and non-linear. Certainly, soccer is a battle replica in the form of an interesting game and that is a reason for its attraction and excitement to many fanatics.
Cheering of Football
In my opinion, watching a football match entails cheering which is a sign of excitement that comes from soccer fanatics. Cheering for football also helps in overcoming some challenges that may arise in one’s life. It may reduce worries and anxiety among the cheerleaders hence enabling them to deal with depression. For example, cheerleading helped Mitchell Knoth to overcome unhappiness that engulfed him because of how his teammates treated him after he had recovered from some injuries in the playing field (Whitney 1). Cheerleading also changed Knoth’s perception about others in a positive way. He admitted that cheering made him more open to what others’ talents and skills were (Whitney 8). Evidently, cheering is also an important aspect of watching football that can change someone’s life.
Primary Factor for Football Excitement
There is a factor that contributes to the quality of football which in turn makes watching the match exciting. Mastery of the physical skills for performing soccer techniques by players is the prime competence that makes football watching, a fascinating affair (Hakman 1237). Clearly, the factor is more extrinsic than it comes from the fanatics. Application of techniques such as dribbling, ball-control, blocking and tackling skillfully during match time is a crucial factor for achieving victory (Hakman 1240). Since those watching a game are interested in the number of goals as well as the quality of the game played, the techniques exhibited by players definitely prettify the match.
In summary, football is multifaceted sport with qualities such as great extents of entertainment, superb creativities, surprises, differentiability between the teams, and vicious competition that thrill the fans. All these qualities stem from players’ mastery of physical expertise that is requisite for performing soccer tactics. Fanatics are entertained through scores that emanate from players’ creativity and mastery of the game. Surprisingly, soccer has suspense and uncertainties that result from the variability within the team and stiff resistance that each team puts against the opponent. Impressively, excitement towards football is exemplified through cheering which is also another form of physical activity. Truly, football remains to be the sport that commands the largest fan base in the world.

History of Football

The modern game of football can be traced back to Britain in 1863, when students at Rugby School decided to play with a round ball instead of a rugby ball. The game quickly spread throughout England and Wales and was codified in 1874 as Association Football. The first international match took place between England and Scotland in 1872, and by 1884, FIFA (Fédération Internationale de Football Association) had been formed to regulate the sport.

Football Essay
An Introduction
Football is a game that requires strength, loads of fitness and cleverness to be played. It is a game of 90 minutes. There are two teams. Each team can have a maximum of 11 players and a minimum of 7 players. There are two goalposts. The goalkeepers from each of the teams prevent the ball from entering the goal area. The other players try to zigzag their way ahead by kicking the ball. They try to pass the opponents to score a goal. It is a highly intense game with excitement, emotion, blood, and sweat.
The History of Football
In the ancient days, football was not made of leather. In some places, people blew up pigs’ bladders to make footballs. In the Mesoamerican culture, football was played with a rock. It denoted the Sun God. The unfortunate thing was, the losing team’s captain was sacrificed to God. This element of violence and barbarism in football continued even when the early signs of modern football started emerging in England.
As the world moved in the 19th century, this game got separated into two forms. In one form, there was the provision to carry the ball with hands and in the other, handling the ball was forbidden except for the goalkeeper. During this time, the rules of the game were set and the violence associated with it was largely reduced.
Why Do So Many People Love Playing Football?
Football, unlike cricket, has no moment of dullness. There is excitement till the last second of the 90-minute game. The joy of passing the ball from the jungle of opponents, and the joy of smashing the ball to the goal is priceless. As the player is moving forward with the ball, there is always that danger of getting the ball snatched away by the opponent. Then there are expert players like Messi or Beckham who magically make the ball take a curve-turn all the while in the air.
There are also heated exchanges among the players. The players take the competition very seriously. No football fan can ever forget the head-butt of Zidane or the attitude of Ronaldo. At the same time, one can also never forget the moment of the Croatian President hugging the players of the country who sadly lost the World Cup Final in 2018. The emotions run high.
Football in India
India is known for cricket. As a result, football gets less attention here. The Bengalis are the forerunners in the football world in India. The All India Football Federation is doing all it can to promote football in the country. Apart from the traditional Santosh Trophy, in India, there are two football leagues - I-League and the Super League.
Gradually, football is gaining traction in India. In fact, India is gradually getting recognized in the international football world. The 2017 U-17 Football World cup was held in India. This is the first time that a major FIFA event took place in the country. There are many football players like Sunil Chhetri, Gurpreet Singh Sandhu, Anirudh Thapa, and more who are relevant in the psyche of the Indians.
Football is a game where people have to give their hundred percent. There is no pretension. It is not just a game of tactics and strength, but also a game of emotions.

English for Students
Watching A Football Match is different experience. The other day I witnessed a football match between The Presidency College Team and The Loyola College Team. A large number of spectators had assembled to see the match even though admission was by tickets. Indeed. The stands were packed to capacity by spectators who included students of local schools and colleges, businessmen, shop-keepers and others. A lot of enthusiasm was discernible among the vast assemblage of football fans, especially because this match was an annual event. For three successive years, since this nasal event was instituted, The Presidency Team has retained their supremacy and they fought successfully to retain the championship this time also, though this time the struggle was harder and fiercer than on previous occasions.
The captain of The Presidency Team, Prakash Raj, could not have had a better day than he had on this occasion. He gave his team the inspirations it needed with an early goal. He indeed showed some neat touches and intelligent positioning and kept racing the fields like players at the height of his football career. He received the close support from ARUM KUMAR with whom he moved with elegant grace and impressed with speed. The young and hard trying inner trio of the Loyola Eleven moved threateningly in the open spaces, but the efforts on these goal-hungry forwards were thwarted by the Presidency Boys.
From the kick-off the defense of the Loyola Eleven faced a furious onslaught, which earned The Presidency Boys Team three corners all of which spell danger. The breakdown came in the eighth minute when Ashok outside-right player of the Presidency, raced downfield in a beautiful solo run, bearing down on Loyola goals. Ashok lifted a glorious diagonal pass across the stretched defense and the ball arched down to Ram Kumar whose header stuck the bar. As the ball came back from the rebound Prakash Raj netted past the goal-keeper amid thunderous cheers. All the spectators enjoyed Watching A Football Match.
The Loyola Eleven had no answer to a number of speedy thrusts by The Presidency Team till the 14th minute when Raman’s break-through was cut short by Govind of Presidency who conceded a corner. Then with dramatic suddenness the Loyola stuck in the 19th minute. It was a cannon-ball drive which brought a gasp of wonder from the crowd and the score was even. The Presidency Eleven shaken to the core spent the few remaining minutes of the first half in a futile bid to regain the lead.
After the interval, the Loyola team attacked relentlessly and with telling effect on the rival defense. Goalkeeper Kuna frustrated their first attempt with a diving save off a short by Jahan following a nasty comer. Then a first-time shot by Vikram form a center went straight into Kuna’s hands. The Loyola team was resisting stubbornly, but their resistance could not continue to be effective very long. A free-kick by Rohan took play inside their penalty area and after a spell of defensive foundering the ball glanced off the foot of Rohan to Visas who shot it straight home taking a lead. I enjoyed Watching A Football Match.
As The Presidency Eleven’s attack increased in fury, the Loyola Citadel seemed in danger of collapsing. The Presidency missed a good chance when Rena ballooned a back-pass from Prem Lal with Shyam coming up to help his forwards, a vacant space was left in The Loyola defense and this was skillfully exploited by Dilawar Singh in the 12th minute. The crowd buzzed with excitement as Shyam swerved past a defender and then another to push the ball to his right and Shamsher, fastening on to it, lashed a right-foot drive into the corner of the net.
The last resistance of the Loyola team was thus broken. They had certainly put up a gallant fight, but the championship had to remain with the holders. The acclamations of the crowd cannot be described. There was wild cheering.

How Football is Played
Football is played by two teams. Each team has eleven players. The game is played on a large rectangular-shaped grass field. There are two goalposts on both ends of the breadth of the field. Players pass the ball to each other by kicking or heading it into the opponent’s goalpost. The players have to play the game by kicking the ball and passing it to teammates. Only the goalkeeper can stop the ball with hands within a restricted area around the goalpost. The objective of the team is to score more goals than their opponent team. The team scores a goal when the ball passes the goal line. The game is played for two 45-minute halves, and the team which makes the most goals wins.
Football is a team sport. The player’s brilliance to score the goal helps their team to win. Tackle, attack, shoot, and score past the goalpost are collective skill sets of champion players. The sport has seen some of the best players over decades. Some famous players are Pele, Diego Maradona, George Best, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Lionel Messi.
Football Tournaments
The World Cup is the most famous international tournament of football. It is the biggest football tournament which is organised by FIFA. This competition takes place once every four years. There are approximately 190 to 200 national teams competing to qualify in this tournament. The final is conducted between 32 teams of different nations which compete with one another for over 4 week period. Other than the World Cup, the other most famous and prestigious tournaments are the Continental Championships. These are the European Championships (UEFA): The Asian Cup (AFC), The Copa America (CONMEBOL), the African Cup of Nations (CAF), The OFC Nations Cup (OFC), The CONCACAF Gold Cup. Irrespective of these tournaments, there are many champions league tournaments conducted between football clubs.
Football in India
In India, various sports are played. Football is one of them. Although it has not got as much popularity as the other sports, now people have started taking interest in it. The people of Kerala, Goa, West Bengal, Manipur, Mizoram, Sikkim and other states have started playing football. Britishers introduced the football game in India. Initially, the game was played between the army teams. The game became famous when Indian footballers won the IFA-Shield Trophy in 1911. This is for the first time an Indian team won a tournament match before that only the British teams used to win the game.
India has evolved from a single sport nation to a multisport nation. However, to improve the participation of people in sports like football, there is a need to provide more resources and sports infrastructure. People should be encouraged to participate in football by providing them with proper training, mentorship and guidance. Government should promote the players who perform well at the state level by giving them a secured job or helping them financially, so they focus more on sports.

Should College Football Players Be Paid Essay
College football is a great business that brings millions of dollars and provides coaches with high salaries. Athletes train hard to present their universities and receive career opportunities. However, they should not be paid for it as they already receive scholarships or grants and have all the training facilities. Many other students contribute to their colleges and don’t receive payment either. Sports scholarships give many opportunities to talented athletes. Some of them cover all the costs of education and living expenses. Education is not cheap in the United States – even half of the annual payment is a significant sum. Football scholarships offer a “full-ride” for the students who participate in Football Bowl Subdivision. That is why they graduate without loans and don’t have to work during college. Moreover, they can receive a degree and sports opportunities after graduation, thanks to the scholarships. Funding can be considered as payment for their hard work and dedication. All the sports facilities on campus are relatively expensive. Colleges pay for the equipment and its maintenance so that athletes can use it all for free. Football athletes have a place to train, coaches, psychologists, and recognition. All this creates perfect conditions for working out and concentration. Of course, it is an investment, and colleges also earn money on selling tickets, drinks, snacks, and merchandise. As for students, the ability to train and play are the investments in their future careers.
Essay on Concussions in Football
Concussions are the most frequent traumas in American football. While uniforms’ design should protect the athletes, it is still a valid problem. Repeated concussions can cause chronic traumatic encephalopathy that results in brain deterioration and mass loss. The symptoms include memory loss, impulsive behavior, depression, and even dementia. Why are safety measures during training so necessary? It is hard to notice CTE during the first stages. An athlete could not spot the first symptoms for months, years, or even decades. JAMA published a study that shows that among 202 deceased former football players, 177 had CTE. It is hard to imagine, but safety and proper care could have saved the lives and health of those athletes. Such measures as rapid screening, adequate rest, and regular mental health screens should be integral parts of every football player’s life. They also should not return to play the same day the concussion was diagnosed and gradually return to sports. Full recovery takes up to two weeks for adults and up to a month for kids. We need to work on risky behavior. Coaches and healthcare providers have to educate football players on concussions and possible consequences from a young age. While it is impossible to control the risks during competitions fully, it can be achievable during training. It should be every team’s goal to prevent injuries during pre-season practice…

Describe a Live Sports Match that you watched.
You should say
When you watched it
And explain why you liked watching it
Well, football is the only sport that I usually watch with my brother. I’m terrible at playing football but I love watching a football match . Both home and away games cause high levels of emotion in me. Today, however, I would like to talk about a match where I did not care about the score.
There was an occasion a few years ago when I went to watch a football match in a town about half an hour from where I live by bike. It was a charity match to collect funds for the local school – and it was very well attended . I think there must have been over 5,000 people there, which isn’t bad because there weren’t any star players . The atmosphere was so exciting that it encouraged the players a lot as soon as they came into the football pitch with the referee . My brother and I were 100 percent focused on the match and provoked the players in two teams for their fair play.
I am really deep into this football match for a number of reasons. Firstly, the players in two teams are not the professors, but they really ensured fair play and no red and yellow cards were released. Secondly, because of the charity aim of the match, the ticket fair then was donated for this local school and poor children, so I felt happy to contribute something to help other people.
In fact, it is the most unforgettable match that I have ever lively watched.
Being a sports fanatic, I have an uncanny knack for relishing every type of game. However, I am a bit unbiased toward cricket matches. While I prefer watching cricket matches on TV, I visit a stadium whenever I get an opportunity. So, on one such occasion, I had a chance to visit Bangalore to watch a live cricket match. It was back in 2018, and the IPL season was at its peak. The game was between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Punjab Kings.
When I entered the stadium, I saw that it was jampacked, and the environment was breathtaking. There were both national and international people cheering for their preferred teams. Since I was seated close to the pavilion, I somehow managed to get a selfie clicked with Virat Kohli. The crowd was going berserk whenever a player scored a six, four or got a wicket.
The experience was immensely enriching for me. I was ecstatic to see significant players giving their best shots, just at a distance. That was when I realised how difficult it is to concentrate on the game when thousands of people are present all around, chanting, encouraging and sometimes abusing.
Regardless of the match’s outcome, this delightful experience will always stay etched in my memories.

The game is played by millions of people, from children in their backyards to professional athletes on international stages. Soccer has a rich history and culture that dates back hundreds of years and continues to evolve with each passing year.
One of the main reasons for soccer’s universal appeal is its simplicity. All you need is a ball and some open space, and you can start playing this beautiful game. The objective of soccer is straightforward – score more goals than your opponent by putting the ball into their net using any part of your body except for your arms and hands.
However, behind this seemingly simple concept lies a complex and strategic game that requires skill, teamwork, and physical fitness. Soccer is not just about individual talent; it is also about working together as a team. This aspect of soccer promotes camaraderie and teaches important life skills such as cooperation, leadership, and discipline.
In addition to its physical demands, soccer is also mentally challenging for players. They must constantly adapt to changing situations on the field, anticipate their opponent’s moves, and make quick decisions under pressure. Moreover, soccer requires players to have a strong mental attitude and the ability to bounce back from setbacks, which can be valuable lessons in life beyond the sport.
Beyond its gameplay, soccer also has a rich cultural significance. It brings people of different backgrounds together and fosters a sense of community and unity. The World Cup, held every four years, is one of the most-watched sporting events in the world and showcases the diversity of nations competing for glory on a global stage.
Soccer also has a significant impact on social issues such as promoting gender equality and empowering marginalized communities. Many organizations use soccer as a tool for social change by providing opportunities for underserved populations, promoting education and health, and tackling discrimination.

Josh Allen loves football so much he'll even watch the Hall of Fame Game
Josh Allen is one of us. The Buffalo Bills quarterback is a real football enthusiast.
NFL preseason play kicks off Thursday night with the Hall of Fame Game in Canton and Allen plans on watching when the Chicago Bears battle the Houston Texans before an ABC television audience.
"I love football. We'll have it on in the dorm rooms. Make sure that we're learning as we're watching, too," said Allen.
Even though starters and established veterans rarely see the field in this annual exhibition, Allen finds plenty of value in observing and using the game film as a learning tool.
There's a lot of things that these young guys can learn from in this first preseason game. You'll see a lot of missed tackles. You'll probably see some ball handling issues," said Allen. "Just things that we can learn from, and Coach McDermott will probably put that up on the board on Friday, tomorrow, when we meet."
After an off-day, the Bills practiced in Pittsford on Thursday. The team will make a quick return to Orchard Park for the Blue & Red scrimmage on Friday evening at Highmark Stadium.

Judge rejects bid by Judicial Watch, Daily Caller to reopen fight over access to Biden Senate papers
Associated Press
DOVER, Del. (AP) — A Delaware judge has refused to vacate a ruling denying a conservative media outlet and an activist group access to records related to President Joe Biden’s Senate papers at the University of Delaware. Judicial Watch and the Daily Caller News Foundation sought to reopen their lawsuit following the release of Special Counsel Robert Hur’s report about Biden’s handling of classified documents. Hur found that Biden willfully retained highly classified information when he was a private citizen. Judicial Watch and the Daily Caller said Hur’s discovery that the university had stored the papers for Biden at no cost constituted new evidence bolstering their argument for access to the papers.

"I would love to get out there and play," Williams said. "It's pretty awesome to be at Canton, but it's coach's decision."

Paris 2024 football: Women's semi-final preview, schedule and how to watch all the Olympic action
From 12 teams down to four, the women's Olympic football semi-finals are here at Paris 2024 .
An enthralling quarter-final lineup delivered some nail-biting encounters, as the fight for gold heats up.
The United States Women's National Team (USWNT) were the first side to book their place in the final four, followed by Spain.
Germany advanced with a dramatic shootout win over Canada, while Brazil shocked hosts France to take the final spot.
As the gold-medal match edges closer, read on to find out how, when and where you can watch the last four clashes live.
Trinity Rodman's creative flare set to shine on world stage
The USWNT have found their winning formula at Paris 2024
Aitana Bonmati scores the winning penalty for Spain against Colombia.
Women's Olympic football at Paris 2024: Semi-final preview
Four-time Olympic gold medallists the USWNT were the first to book their place in the next round after a resolute showing against long-time rivals Japan.
A tense affair was ultimately settled in the first half of extra-time when Crystal Dunn and Trinity Rodman combined for a moment of magic to win 1-0.
They will meet Germany in the semi-finals, who themselves were taken to extra time by reigning Olympic champions Canada. Unlike the former tie, this one had to be settled on penalties where Ann-Katrin Berger 's heroics, saving two and scoring her own, saw the Europeans progress.
It is the second time these two sides have met in this tournament, having been group-stage opponents earlier on. Germany will have been quick to forget that game, having let the USWNT run riot in a thumping 4-1 victory.
It happened to be the 36th meeting between the two nations, with the USA dominating with 24 wins — seven draws have been contested, with the Germans on the winning side just five times.
Elsewhere in the second semi-final, Brazil will take on Spain for a shot at winning the coveted gold.
The South Americans beat the host nation France across a gruelling 90 minutes, with 16 minutes of stoppage time added at the end, thanks to Gabi Portilho 's late winner.
That means that Marta 's farewell tour continues, with the Brazilian icon suspended for the quarter-final after being sent off against, coincidentally enough, Spain.
The two locked horns in the group stage and will do so once more, as the Spaniards aim to progress to the final of their first-ever Olympic Games.
Colombia made them work for their spot in the final four, forcing them to come from 2-0 down to draw 2-2. A subdued 30 minutes of extra-time resolved nothing and resulted in penalties, in which Spain cruised to a 4-2 win.
It is all on the line in the semi-finals, with everything to play for in these unmissable clashes.
