MP Medical University Launches ‘Digital Thesis’ for PG students and PhD Researchers

The digital method has been implemented to protect the environment which will also be economical and save money of students. They can now submit it in pdf formats. 

In order to save trees and put an end to the flow of hard-copies of dissertations, the Madhya Pradesh Medical Science University has launched the digital format of submitting theses for postgraduate students and PhD researchers.

Jabalpur-based university’s Vice-Chancellor, Dr R S Sharma told PTI that the students can now submit soft copies of their thesis instead of using the traditional method.

He further said that the digital method has been implemented to protect the environment which will also be economical and save money of students. They can now submit it in pdf formats.

The checking of these theses will be done online. The university marks the first institute that has taken this step. It is also useful to store these in an organised manner and keep them safe for years.

The traditional way consumes a lot of space, which were used to be carried to the headquarters in Jabalpur in vehicles. the digital format will also save the theses from termites and moisture.

The digital thesis is a concept that would be beneficial for more than 1,200 institutes of different institutes which includes post-graduate candidates of surgery, allopathy, homoeopathy, nursing, Ayurveda, dentistry, etc. This includes PhD researchers as well.

Associate Professor of Department of Physiology in Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College, Dr Manohar Bhandari has been running a campaign to launch the same in higher education institutions all over the country. The same has been suggested to the administration of Madhya Pradesh Medical Science University.

He further added that a lot of trees will be saved after the digital thesis system is introduced in all the higher education institutes in the country. Crores of money can be saved by researchers and students that they spend on a paper thesis.

According to reports, around 24 trees are cut to produce one tonne of paper which also takes a lot of water and electricity. Chemicals and emission of greenhouse gases also take place in the process.
