Excel Advanced Capstone Lesson - Feed Calculator

This lesson covers a wide variety of the skills to date for Microsoft Excel, including some new ones, creating user interface menus and slider bars.  Together we will create a working Feed Calculator for chickens, allowing you to create mixtures to maximize caloric intake and nutrition while minimizing costs for any number of birds of any age.  

This assignment has three parts; a spreadsheet, video, and the PowerPoint used in the video.  Please download all parts, though you can skip the PowerPoint if the video was sufficient in the assignment.

The screen images in this file are from Excel 2010, but will work with little adaption for later versions.  Some keystroke substitutions for Mac users will be required for CTRL and ALT keys.

To create the calculator, you can use the PowerPoint downloaded above, and/or the included video playlist below.  These videos are hosted on YouTube, five in all, ranging from 7 to 20 minutes each.  Together they are a complete walkthrough of the lesson, detailing the creation of the feed calculator.

Capstone Projects 2020 - 2021

Capstone 1: co2 emissions report in excel dashboards.

Our cohort's first capstone was an exciting and interesting project since prior to this I was unaware that Excel could do so much more than the usual spreadsheet functionalities that I was used to doing.

In the module, I learned that Excel is capable of Data Preparation, Data Transformation and Dashboards to visualise stories for presentations. I have heard a lot about Big Data, and until this programme my knowledge of the term was minimal. I think that Excel Dashboard was a good introduction to Big Data and how to handle them, which is also an important precursor for our subsequent modules.

For my Capstone, I had initially chosen several topics and datasets that I sourced out from popular websites such as Kaggle and Data.world before eventually deciding to take on the CO2 Emissions by Developed and Developing countries datasets. I used the datasets available at the World Bank's and BP's websites and combined the columns I would need for my report.

You are now ready for your final capstone assignment. For this assignment you will need to download four files: one each for Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access. In this scenario, you have been asked to give a presentation on the new RowanGo app. You will create the presentation and a document, integrating Excel and Access in each and using tools covered throughout the course.

Follow the directions, then submit your assignment. If you get stuck on a step, review the modules in this course and ask your classmates for help in the discussion forum.

Part 1: PowerPoint presentation

• Download the PowerPoint presentation and Word document as well as the Access database and Excel table that you will integrate into both documents. Save all four files to the Rowan folder on your desktop.
• Open the PowerPoint presentation. Save it to the Rowan folder on your desktop as BA132_LastName_Capstone.pptx , replacing “LastName” with your own last name. (Example: BA132_Hywater_Capstone) It is a good idea to save your work periodically.
• Five total slides
• New theme from original one
• Excel chart from file (the formatting may or may not change between Excel and PowerPoint and it is completely fine, just make it legible in the slide.)
• Access abbreviated contact table from file.
• Word document file first paragraph on left side, and any image of a hand holding a smartphone from internet on right side in slide.

• Add transitions to slides

• Once you are done save your work. Congratulations, you are now done with Part 1!

Part 2: Word document

• Open the Word document you downloaded in Part 1. Save it to the Rowan folder on your desktop as BA132_LastName_Capstone.docx , replacing “LastName” with your own last name. (Example: BA132_Hywater_Capstone) It is a good idea to save your work periodically.
• No watermark.
• Easy to tell document has a new theme.
• Excel table and chart centered.
• Below the chart the words: You can review the presentation here and contact information examples here. Each ‘here’ links to the PowerPoint presentation file and the Access customer contact file respectively.

• Once you are done save your work. Congratulations, you are now done with Part 2!
