Conducting systematic literature reviews and systematic mapping studies.
Context: An essential part of conducting software engineering (SE) research is the ability to identify extant research on tools, technologies, concepts and methods in order to evaluate and make rational and scientific decisions. The domain from which ...
Systematic literature reviews in software engineering - A systematic literature review
Background: In 2004 the concept of evidence-based software engineering (EBSE) was introduced at the ICSE04 conference. Aims: This study assesses the impact of systematic literature reviews (SLRs) which are the recommended EBSE method for aggregating ...
The use of systematic reviews in evidence based software engineering: a systematic mapping study
Context . A decade ago, Kitchenham, Dybå and Jørgensen argued that software engineering could benefit from an evidence-based research approach similar that that used in medicine, introducing the basis for Evidence Based Software Engineering (EBSE). ...

This has the joint aim of extending the generality of this study and investigating a number of issues associated with systematic literature reviews in software engineering i.e. whether we should use manual or automated searchers, and whether restricted searches provide reliable results.
This study is a Systematic Literature Review (SLR). SLR is the process of identifying, assessing, and interpreting all available (published) research evidence with the aim of providing answers...
The objective of this report is to propose comprehensive guidelines for systematic literature reviews appropriate for software engineering researchers, including PhD students.
We used the standard systematic literature review method employing a manual search of 10 journals and 4 conference proceedings. Results Of 20 relevant studies, eight addressed research trends rather than technique evaluation.
The recommended methodology for aggregating empirical studies is a systematic literature review (SLR) (see for example [4], [5], [6] ). Kitchenham adapted the medical guidelines for SLRs to software engineering [7], and later updated them to include insights from sociology research [8].
Objectives: To provide an introduction to the role, form and processes involved in performing Systematic Literature Reviews. After the tutorial, participants should be able to read and use such reviews, and have gained the knowledge needed to conduct systematic reviews of their own.
