What's the Story?

Swathi (Ina Saaha) a National Award-winning actress is in Hyderabad on a professional assignment. In the initial moments itself, it becomes clear that hers is a troubled life. But who is after her is not clear. All that we see is that she is scared for her safety. She gets fearsome nightmares and hallucinations, making the audience wonder if some supernatural danger is upon her. When a young short filmmaker sees her, he finds her to be very beautiful. Not knowing that she is a famous actress in Malayalam, he tries to convince her to act in his short film. She finally accepts his offer. 

As it happens in most horrors/thrillers, they (read Swathi, the director, the hero who is played by Sathya, and DoP who is played by Sudarshan) move to a bungalow which looks suspicious. There is a strange character living in that house and it's Rebecca Williams (yesteryear screen diva Raasi), who starts to observe Swathi keenly and strangely right from the first day. Very soon Swathi becomes close to Rebecca, reading a book on Telepathy. But in a few days, the actress goes missing and none else but Rebecca knows about it!. 

What Works!

'Lanka' has a good technical output to make it visually pleasing. Sricharan Pakala doesn't go for loud BGM. After watching a horror like 'Shivalinga', this one is a total contrast. The cinematography (V Ravi Kumar) scores well. The shots in the bungalow and the police investigation room are impressive. The element of a lonely woman (read Rebecca) coming with a past of her own is interesting. Comedians Sathya and Sudarshan manage to draw some laughs here and there. 

What Doesn't Work!

Leaving aside the emotional touch in the story line, 'Lanka' is all about being convoluted. Before even what kind of danger the heroine is facing is told, she being a monophobic is revealed. That problem eats up much screen space, which it is not integral to the story. If the heroine's nightmares are problematic, even the hero has a day dreaming sequence, thanks to the fact that he loves the girl. And his love story is totally forgotten later!

There comes a story that Rebecca narrates to the police. The story itself turns out to be an artificial element. The dialogues spoken by Raasi's character are difficult to understand at times. Here too, there was no need for such complexity in language. And it's not as if she was a German language teacher in the past!

Nalla Venu's character is a totally misfit. 

Performance Score

The performances are generally good. Raasi is convincing as a self-absorbed, psychological woman who smells of peculiarity. Ina is convincing as a damsel in distress. The guy who played the director is good-looking. Leena Sidhu, who plays a cop with a penchant for speaking in affected English irritates. Sathyam Rajesh is forgettable. 

Final Verdict

'Lanka' was supposed to be a crime thriller. The element of scientific thriller was smuggled into with no proper rational. Some good technicality and performances aside, the film falls flat because of its old-fashioned narrative style.

Lanka Review, What’s Behind:

Yesteryear glamorous actress Raasi is coming back with a heroine centric thriller Lanka in Sri Muni direction based on telepathy concept. The film created some excitement for its teaser, trailer. Let us see, what the film is all about in Lanka Review.

Lanka Story Review:

Malayalam top and award winning actress Swathi (Ina Saha) joins debutant director Sai (Sai Ronak) to work on a horror short film in Hyderabad. They rent a guest house belonging to Rebecca (Raasi), an expert in telepathy. Strange incidents begin to happen at guest house and one day Swathi goes missing along with Rebecca. Police officers (Supreet, Sathyam Rajesh) are given the investigation duties thus comes Swathi in behaving exactly like Rebecca. What’s the purpose behind Rebecca using telepathy to control Swathi? What is the role of Sharath (Sijju) in the whole story?

Lanka Artists, Technicians Review:

Fundamental story element of telepathy is exciting enough to hear but Sri Muni failed to weave an effective plot around it. Too many assumptions networked into the plot made screenplay go misshaped and complex. A plain screenplay with only telepathy concept could have saved Lanka big time. Sri Muni’s enthusiasm at story etching by adding a human trafficking twist to antagonist characterization diluted the original essence making the output feeble and bewildered. Dialogues are of very ordinary quality and sometimes sounded like a dubbing film. Direction wise, Sri Muni excelled in mid second half while rest is bland, boring and lengthy. Ravi Kumar’s camera work is mediocre like bizarre editing from Karthika Srinivas. Music by Sricharan Pakala is also average stuff. Onto production standards, Rolling Rocks Entertainments banner managed a decent output spending on an experimental project.

About performances, Raasi in central character failed to pillar the film on her shoulders. Her queer looking eyes, abnormal costumes and strength-less dialogues delivery are just pathetic. Ina Saha neither is good looking nor a show stealer as an artist. Sai Ronak hasn’t got anything to do. Sijju is far better than all. Sathya, Sathyam Rajesh, Nalla Venu’s comedy is just ok. Rest, none needs a mention.

Though it is a welcome change among Telugu technicians to spot on scientific points like telepathy but lot more depth and sincerity at narration is needed. Such ideas always look stimulating on paper. Real challenge comes in execution, handling every department potently. Sri Muni exactly failed in this case and his over intelligence bounced big time. Despite having a functional telepathy point, why he shifted the gear to human trafficking, exploitation of female orphans is unknown and that too with inexpressive artists at disposal.

Film begins lifelessly after titles when Sai Ronak, Sathya struggle to find a heroine for their short film. Comedy portions failed miserably. Ina Saha never appeared comfortable to eyes. Raasi’s simple introduction at guest house and proceedings there off could have been far better and scary. Once telepathy point is revealed, story goes haywire leading to a weak interval block when Ina Saha goes missed.

Second half begins promisingly as Raasi’s police station scene is handled better. Then Supreet cracking Raasi’s flashback with Sijju’s entry went smoothly. Later on, many scenes shot on Sijju and Ina Saha in Kerala are interest generating. Once audience are found cheated in a poor screenplay format, climax rushes up.

All in all, Lanka is a simple subject went complicated with unwanted elements. Entanglement of Ina Saha in many problems and projection of Raasi in negative light was more than enough to run Lanka. Instead, Sri Muni made the film a mess. CJ gives Lanka review rating 2 stars and commercially, no hopes at all.

Star Performances

Swathi is a popular Malayalam actress who comes to Hyderabad as a part of her movie shooting. Swathi wants to escape from something and is waiting for a VISA to go abroad. To her shock, she is informed that it takes 2 more days for the VISA and hence she decides to spend in some hide out till VISA gets approved. After a few twists and turns by the time they complete the short film, Swathi gets killed and a Police investigation under special officer Supreet starts. Then enters another key character of Sarat (Sijju) stated as the person whom Rebecca loves once.   Who kills Swathi and for more watch the movie to know the rest.

The 2 hour 13 minute long movie was produced by Dinesh N and Vishnu Kumar N is on the story of three friends who are aspiring filmmakers and want to get noticed by their work on a short film. Sai (Ronak) plays the role of the director in the movie.  Veteran actress Raasi, who featured in few super hits like 'Shubakanshalu,' and 'Pelli Pandiri,' is on a comeback trail and featured in horror drama Lanka for the first time in her career. Actors Sai Ronak, Ena Saha, Sathyam Rajesh and Supreeth have done justice to their roles.

SriCharan Pakala had made the music composition for this horror thriller movie.  Srimuni had directed it which is like an usual movie with huge sound effects and the characters are not coordinated perfectly. The editing part is not very perfect and the background scoring is made well. The cinematography work was upto the satisfaction.

Despite not a great story line, the characterisations and the taut screenplay never lets you get bored. Rasi has once again got an author backed role and she has carried out the role of Rebecca with great ease. All the other roles though smaller were fine. On the whole, a good try from the director with just Rasi alone in the star cast who is well-established star other than the noted artists like Supreet, Satyam Rajesh, Satya, and Sudarshan.  The movie can be watched only once and those who like suspense thrillers may like it.

ఏదైనా అనుకోనిది కళ్ల ముందే జరిగితే ‘అంతా రెప్పపాటులో జరిగింది’ అంటారు. చాలా విషయాలు కన్నుమూసి తెరిచేలోపు జరిగిపోతాయి. మరి రెప్పపాటులో మన జీవితం వెనక్కి వెళితే, జరిగిన తప్పులను సరిదిద్దుకునే వీలుంటే.. నిజ జీవితంలో అలాంటిది అసాధ్యమేమో కానీ, తెరపై ‘బ్లింక్‌’ (blink movie review) అంటూ థ్రిల్లింగ్‌ పంచారు యువ దర్శకుడు శ్రీనిధి బెంగళూరు.

సస్పెన్స్‌, ట్విస్టులు ఒకటేమిటి? కన్నుమూసి తెరిచేలోపు చాలా మారిపోతుంటాయి. మనం ఏమరపాటుగా ఉండి, ఏ ఫోనో, మరేదో పనిలో అలా పక్కకు వెళ్లామంటే అంతే, తెరపై అసలేం జరిగిందో తెలుసుకోవడం కష్టం. అందుకే ‘బ్లింక్‌’ మూవీ ఇప్పుడు ఓటీటీ ప్రేక్షకుడు కళ్లు ‘బ్లింక్‌’ చేయకుండా చూస్తున్నారు.

అన్ని టైమ్‌ ట్రావెల్‌ కథల్లా నేపథ్యం ఒకటే అయినా, కాన్సెప్ట్‌ మాత్రం చాలా కొత్తగా డిజైన్‌ చేశారు. అపూర్వ (దీక్షిత్‌ శెట్టి) మధ్యతరగతి యువకుడు. చిన్న చిన్న ఉద్యోగాలు చేస్తూ జీవితాన్ని నెట్టుకొస్తూ ఉంటాడు. స్వప్న (మందార బత్తలహళ్లి)ను ప్రేమిస్తాడు. ఇద్దరికీ థియేటర్‌ ఆర్ట్స్‌ అంటే ప్రాణం. కలిసి నాటికలు కూడా ప్రదర్శిస్తూ ఉంటారు. అన్ని విషయాల్లోనూ అపూర్వకు స్వప్న సహకారం అందిస్తూ ఉంటుంది. ఈ క్రమంలో ఒకరోజు ఓ వ్యక్తి అపూర్వ జీవితంలోకి వస్తాడు. ‘కళ్లార్పకుండా ఎక్కువసేపు ఉండగలిగే అద్భుతశక్తి నీకు ఉంది. నేను చెప్పినట్టు చేస్తే నిన్ను గతంలోకి తీసుకెళ్తా. నీ తండ్రి అసలు బతికి ఉన్నాడా? లేదా? నువ్వు తెలుసుకోవచ్చు’ అని చెబుతాడు. మొదట అపూర్వ అతడి వ్యాఖ్యలను కొట్టేసినా, ఆ తర్వాత టైమ్ ట్రావెల్‌ చేసేందుకు వెళ్తాడు. మరి కాలంలో ప్రయాణించిన అపూర్వకు ఎలాంటి నిజాలు తెలిశాయి? అతని తండ్రి బతికే ఉన్నాడా? మళ్లీ వర్తమానానికి ఎలా వచ్చాడు?అన్నది కథ.

టైమ్‌ ట్రావెల్, టైమ్‌ లూప్‌లో చిక్కుకోవడం తదితర నేపథ్యాలు కలిగిన సినిమాలు ప్రేక్షకుడికి కొత్తేమీ కాదు. కానీ, ‘బ్లింక్‌’ ఇప్పటివరకూ వచ్చిన సినిమాలకు పూర్తి భిన్నం. అపూర్వ నేపథ్యం, అతడి ప్రేమ తదితర విషయాలను చెబుతూ కథలు మొదలుపెట్టిన దర్శకుడు అసలు పాయింట్‌కు రావడానికి కాస్త ఎక్కువ సమయమే తీసుకున్నాడు. అపూర్వ టైమ్‌ ట్రావెల్‌ చేయడానికి ఒప్పుకొన్న తర్వాతే అసలు కథ మొదలవుతుంది. అక్కడి నుంచి సినిమా చూస్తున్న ప్రేక్షకుడు తర్వాత ఏం జరుగుతుందో అస్సలు ఊహించలేడు. (Blink Movie Review) తన తండ్రిని కాపాడుకునేందుకు అపూర్వ చేసే ప్రయత్నాలు ఒకవైపు, మరోవైపు 1996లో జరిగే అరివు-దేవికల ప్రేమ, పెళ్లి వ్యవహారం.. మళ్లీ అపూర్వ వర్తమానం రావడం.. ఇలా కథ, కథనాలు సాగుతూ ఆద్యంతం ఆసక్తిని కలిగిస్తాయి.

వర్తమానంలో అచ్చం అపూర్వ లాంటి వ్యక్తి అతడికి తారస పడటం, స్వప్నతో అతడు కలిసిమెలిసి తిరగడం అసలు తనలాంటి వాడు ఎవడా? అని అపూర్వ కనుక్కొనే ప్రయత్నం చేయడం ఇలా ప్రతి ఎపిసోడ్‌ ఎంగేజింగ్‌గా సాగుతుంది. భ్రమ, వాస్తవానికి తేడా తెలుసుకోలేక అపూర్వ పడే ఇబ్బంది, మానసిక వేదన సినిమాలో లీనమైన ప్రేక్షకుడిని ఉద్విగ్నానికి గురిచేస్తుంది. ఇక చివరి అరగంట సినిమా మొత్తానికే హైలైట్‌. (Blink Movie Review) ఇక్కడ ఏ ఒక్క సీన్‌ మిస్సయినా మూవీ అస్సలు అర్థం కాదంటే దర్శకుడు, ఎంత పకడ్బందీగా స్క్రీన్‌ప్లేను డిజైన్‌ చేశాడో అర్థం చేసుకోవచ్చు. క్లైమాక్స్‌లో ట్విస్ట్‌లు ప్రేక్షకుడి మైండ్‌ బ్లాంక్‌ చేస్తాయి. నటీనటులు అందరూ తెలుగువాళ్లకు కొత్తే అయినా శ్రీనాథ్ డిజైన్‌ చేసిన పాత్రల్లో వాళ్లు ఇమిడిపోయారు. ఒక్కసారి కాన్సెప్ట్‌ ప్రేక్షకుడు కనెక్ట్‌ అయితే, సినిమాతో పాటు, మనం కూడా టైమ్‌ ట్రావెల్‌లోకి వెళ్లిపోతాం. అటు నటీనటుల పరంగా, ఇటు టెక్నికల్‌ మంచి ప్రయత్నం చేశారు.

కుటుంబంతో చూడొచ్చా: ఎలాంటి ఇబ్బంది లేకుండా చూడొచ్చు. ఎక్కడా అసభ్య సన్నివేశాలు లేవు. అమెజాన్‌ ప్రైమ్‌ వీడియోలో తాజాగా తెలుగు ఆడియోనూ జత చేశారు.

Young actor Kartikeya has now come up with the comedy-drama Bedurulanka 2012. Directed by Clax, the film has been well-promoted in the last few days. Recent sensation Neha Sshetty is the female lead. The movie has hit the screens today, and let’s see how it is.

Set in a fictional village called Bedurulanka in the year 2012, the movie deals with greed and human tendencies. Bhushanam (Ajay Ghosh) and his gang try to take advantage of the people who are worried about the possible apocalypse on December 21, 2012. But Shiva (Kartikeya), belonging to the village, tries to upset the apple cart. Shiva takes the help of his friends and ladylove Chitra (Neha Sshetty) for the same. How Shiva exposes the true colors of Bhushanam and his gang forms the crux of the story.

Plus Points:

The message that the film tries to depict is good. How a few fraudulent godmen try to take advantage of the naive beliefs of the people is shown in a neat manner. The apocalypse concept adds more value, and hence, the godmen proliferation looked convincing. The sarcasm of the Godavari region people is well presented in the initial half an hour.

Kartikeya does a neat job, and his comedy timing came in handy. His characterization is designed well. Initially, Kartikeya plays a cool youngster, and later, he takes up the responsibility of saving his fellow beings who are falling into the trap of the spiritual leaders. Neha Sshetty is good as a village belle, and she shared good chemistry with Kartikeya.

The last few minutes of the movie are handled well. Villagers behave like there’s no tomorrow when the protagonist asks them to live honestly before the world ends, and this has been shown in a crazy manner. The tongue-in-cheek humor is brought well in a few scenes featuring Ajay Ghosh, Srikanth Iyengar, Rajkumar Kasireddy, and Auto Ramprasad.

Minus Points:

The movie starts on an interesting note, but the consistency is missing in the storytelling. A few portions in the first half beat around the bush, diluting the impact to an extent. These redundant scenes could have been trimmed.

The interval is alright, but the scenes that follow up are underwhelming and are not handled well. This is where the film gets boring. There is fun momentarily through one-liners, but the chaos that people go through during the apocalypse could have been shown in an even better manner.

The drama in the mid portions is convoluted, which bogs down the overall feel. The song in the end isn’t great, and here, the film turns into a bumpy ride for a brief period. LB Sriram’s role could have been used much more effectively.

Technical Aspects:

Mani Sharma’s background score was in accordance with the film’s theme. Coming to the songs, Vennello Aadapilla stands out from the rest. The cinematography by Sai Prakash Ummadisingu and Sunny Kurapati is splendid, showcasing the beautiful fictional village. The editing could have been a little better. The production values are fine.

Coming to the debutant director Clax, he has chosen a very interesting subject for the film, and he tried to narrate it in an entertaining manner. While the beginning and the end portions are largely engaging, the mid part is underwhelming. But what keeps the film going is its concept, the setting and performances. The subject matter had a lot more scope, but it has been underutilized.

On the whole, Bedurulanka 2012 has an interesting premise with some fun moments here and there. Kartikeya, Ajay Ghosh, and Srikanth Iyenger did a pretty job. The main concept itself is very interesting, but its potential has not been thoroughly utilized. The beginning and end of the film are good, but the mid portions are underwhelming, with inconsistent narration. Also, Bedurulanka 2012 could have done with a shorter runtime. If you are okay with these de-merits, you can give it a try.

'మగధీర' తర్వాత తెలుగులో పలు సినిమాలు చేశారు. ఇప్పుడు పాన్ ఇండియా సినిమా 'అహో విక్రమార్క'తో కథానాయకుడిగా ప్రేక్షకుల ముందుకు వచ్చారు. రాజమౌళి కో డైరెక్టర్, 'దిక్కులు చూడకు రామయ్య' ఫేమ్ త్రికోటి పేట దర్శకత్వం వహించగా... కథ (Aho Vikramarka Movie Story): విక్రమార్క (దేవ్ గిల్) సబ్ ఇన్స్పెక్టర్. పుణెలో ఓ స్టేషన్‌లో పోస్టింగ్ వచ్చిన వెంటనే అక్రమార్జనకు తెర తీస్తాడు. డ్రగ్ మాఫియా కీలక సభ్యుడు బిలాల్ (పోసాని కృష్ణమురళి) దగ్గర డబ్బులు తీసుకోవడం మొదలు పెడతాడు. ప్రేమించిన అమ్మాయి అర్చన (చిత్రా శుక్లా) కోసం అక్రమార్కుడు కాస్త నీతి నిజాయితీలకు మారు పేరుగా మారతాడు.

విక్రమార్కలో మార్పు తీసుకొచ్చిన ఘటన ఏమిటి? ఎక్కువ కూలికి ఆశపడి 25 ఏళ్ల క్రితం పనికి వెళ్లిన పార్వతి స్లమ్ ఏరియాలో మనుషులు ఏమయ్యారు? వాళ్లకు, ఈ విక్రమార్కకు సంబంధం ఏమిటి? దట్టమైన అడవుల్లోని దండక ప్రాంతంలో ఏం జరుగుతోంది? అసుర (ప్రవీణ్ టర్డే) ఎవరు? పుణెలో డ్రగ్ మాఫియాను భయంతో పరుగులు పెట్టించిన భవాని (తేజస్వినీ పండిట్) మాయం కావడం వెనుక కారణం ఏమిటి? చివరకు ఏమైంది? అనేది సినిమా చూసి తెలుసుకోవాలి. 

విశ్లేషణ (Aho Vikramarka Review Telugu): సిల్వర్ స్క్రీన్ మీద తనను తాను హీరోగా చూసుకోవడం కోసం దేవ్ గిల్ తీసుకున్న సినిమా 'అహో విక్రమార్క'. ఇక్కడ 'తీసుకున్న' అని ఎందుకు అనాల్సి వచ్చిందంటే... నిర్మాతల్లో ఆయనొకరు. కోట్ల రూపాయల డబ్బు, డబ్బు కోసం పని చేసే టెక్నీషియన్లు ఉంటే సినిమా తీయడం సులభం అని చెప్పడానికి 'అహో విక్రమార్క' ఒక ఉదాహరణ.

కథ, కథనం నుంచి మొదలు పెడితే నటీనటుల ప్రతిభ, సంగీతం, దర్శకత్వం వరకు... ఒక్కటంటే ఒక్క అంశంలోనూ ఆకట్టుకొని సినిమా 'అహో విక్రమార్క'. 'కెజిఎఫ్', 'సలార్' ఫేమ్ రవి బస్రూర్ ఈ సినిమాకు సంగీతం అందించారంటే నమ్మడం కష్టంగా ఉంటుంది. బహుశా... దేవ్ గిల్ నటన, పేట త్రికోటి దర్శకత్వం, పెన్మత్స ప్రసాద్ వర్మ కథ చూశాక ఏదో ఒకటి కొట్టేద్దాం అని ఆయన కూడా లైట్ తీసుకున్నారేమో!?

పెన్మెత్స ప్రసాద్ వర్మ కథలో ఇసుమంతైనా కొత్తదనం లేదు. పది పదిహేను హిట్ తెలుగు సినిమాలను మిక్సీలో వేసి తీసినట్టు ఉంది. ఎన్టీఆర్ 'టెంపర్', కళ్యాణ్ రామ్ 'పటాస్' సినిమాలు గుర్తు ఉన్నాయా? అవినీతుపరుడైన పోలీస్ మనసును కదిలించే ఘటన తర్వాత నీతిపరుడిగా మారాడతాడు. ఆ రెండూ విజయాలు సాధించాయి. అందుకు కారణం ఆయా కథలను తెరకెక్కించిన తీరు. యాక్షన్, వినోదం, హీరోల నటనతో కొత్తగా ప్రజెంట్ చేసిన విధానం. 'అహో విక్రమార్క' కథను మరొక హీరోతో, దర్శకుడితో తీసి ఉంటే బావుండేదేమో!? యాక్షన్ తప్ప మిగతా సన్నివేశాల్లో మినిమమ్ నటన ఇవ్వలేని దేవ్ గిల్ ప్రేక్షకుల సహనానికి పరీక్ష పెట్టారు. కొన్ని సన్నివేశాలు చూస్తే ఎలా తీశారని నవ్వు వస్తుంది.

బిలాల్ పాత్రలో పోసాని కృష్ణమురళి, హీరో తండ్రిగా షాయాజీ షిండే ఓకే. వాళ్లకు అలవాటైన క్యారెక్టర్లు కావడంతో ఈజీగా చేసుకుంటూ వెళ్లారు. కానిస్టేబుల్‌గా బిత్తిరి సత్తి సన్నివేశాల్లో వినోదం రాలేదు. అసుర అనుచరుడిగా తన పాత్రకు న్యాయం చేశారు 'కాలకేయ' ప్రభాకర్.

స్టార్టింగ్ టు ఎండింగ్ ఫక్తు కమర్షియల్ ఫార్మాటులో ఏ దశలోనూ ఆకట్టుకొని నటన, సన్నివేశాలతో తెరకెక్కిన సినిమా 'అహో విక్రమార్క'. కథ, కథనంతో సంబంధం లేకుండా నాలుగు యాక్షన్ సన్నివేశాలు చూడటానికి వెళ్లే ప్రేక్షకులు అయితే హాయిగా వెళ్లొచ్చు. స్క్రీన్ మీద హీరో చేసే చిత్ర విచిత్ర విన్యాసాలు చూసి జోక్స్ వేసుకునే స్నేహితుల బృందం వెళ్లొచ్చు. ట్రోలర్స్, మీమ్ పేజీలకు మంచి స్టఫ్ ఇచ్చే సినిమా 'అహో విక్రమార్క'.
