‘I have a lot of reasons to be excited about Juliet 2: Brinda Acharya’

Brinda Acharya has a lot of reasons to be excited about her upcoming film Juliet 2.  “Juliet 2 will be my first female-centric film, and I play the central character in it. Secondly, the film is getting a multilingual release in 5 languages,” she says. However, the film will release first release on February 24 in Kannada. Juliet will be out in two parts and curiously, the second part of the film will release first. “The director Virat Gowda is also working on the prequel,” says Brinda, in her conversation with CE.

“Is it possible for a woman to always have a man by her side, for her safety? Certainly not. Women can protect themselves, take care of the family, and there are a lot of examples who have succeeded in this. Juliet in this film doesn’t have a Romeo, and she is a lone fighter. That is the concept of Juliet 2. The director was very particular about the title, as he felt it will do justice to the story,” she says.

“Juliet is about an independent girl, who has a very close bonding with her father. The story revolves around her and the challenges she faces when she goes back to her hometown. How she fights back in fulfilling her father’s dreams is brought through an action crime drama,” she adds.

Brinda had a lot of firsts in Juliet 2, “This film demanded me to deadly action sequences, for which I got into training martial arts for 2 months.  Since this is a dark subject, the director felt that along with physical ability, we also needed mental strength. We were put into workshops where Anup Sagar, Roy Badiger, Srikanth,and Kush Acharya and I were put in a dark room for  1 hour every day for 2 months to sink in that energy,” she explains.

Director, who was looking for a fresh face, chose Brinda, just by looking at her photo. “There is a perception that female actors with a strong build can only do action sequences. I was also not confident with stunts.  But the director was confident that I will do it. He always said that women should not consider themselves weak, and body forms shouldn’t limit anyone. I was amazed by the confidence he had about me, and that pushed me to pull off the role in Juliet 2,” she says.

Produced by Likith Koitan, under the PL Productions banner, Juliet 2 has music scored by Sandeep Ballal and Rajath Rao. The background score is composed by Sachin Basrur and Shento Vato has handled the cinematography.

The teaser was launched at an event that was graced by the producer Likith R. Kotian, director Virat B Gowda, actors Brinda Acharya and Srikanth Roy Badiger, and the cast of Juliet 2.

Juliet 2 Teaser Review

The movie narrates the story of Juliet (Brinda Acharya), an independent woman, who has a close bond with her father. She aspires to fulfil her father’s dreams. Juliet witnessed a horrific incident one night that connected her to her own traumatic past. The teaser shows a chaotic circle of vengeful attacks. It leaves us with the question of whether Juliet will be able to triumph over the brutality behind the dark door. Brinda Acharya is an Indian actor who predominantly works in the Kannada film industry. She made her acting debut in the Kannada film Premam Poojyam , which was released in 2021.

Juliet 2 Release Date

The movie is scheduled to release in February 2023. Reliance Entertainment Studio has grabbed the distribution rights. Mangaluru, Feb 24: Kannada movie directed by Virat B Gowda ‘Juliet 2’ released on Friday February 24.

K R Ganesh Bhat, Nithin Suvarna, actor Anoop Sagar, Puneeth R Kotian, Shento V Anto, actor Kush Acharya, Radhesh Shenoy, and Lakshmish Kumble were present during release event of ‘Juliet 2’.

‘Juliet 2’ is the directorial debut of Virat B Gowda and produced by Likith R Kotian under the banner PL Productions. The movie stars Brinda Acharya, Anoop Sagar, Kush Acharya, Roy and Srikanth. The movie was shot, in and around Mangaluru and Beltangady regions, and the entire movie is executed by a team of Mangalureans.

Juliet 2 was released prior to Juliet part one and 30% shoot has been completed of the same, the mkers have informed.

The story of ‘Juliet 2’ revolves around a young and gusty independent woman, where she fights ruthless and savage battles beyond the darkest doors. The movie is a survival thriller based on the concept of women empowerment and fight against the inhumanity in the society.

Juliet 2 to pave way for prequel and sequel

The teaser of Virat Gowda’s Juliet 2, was unveiled by Ashwini Puneeth Rajkumar recently, and is currently streaming on the Aanand Audio channel. The makers are elated that it has garnered a million views within a couple of days of its release. The team now plans to release the trailer on February 14, and release the film in the same month. Interestingly, the film distribution rights has been bought by Reliance Entertainment studios, which will be releasing the film in multiple languages including Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Hindi.

Billed to be an edge-of-the-seat-thriller, the plot revolves around Juliet, an independent girl who is close to her father and wishes to fulfil her dreams. However, she witnesses a dreadful incident that connects to her past. “The story revolves around the chaotic circle of vengeful attacks,” says the director, who also hints at making a prequel and a sequel. “I am simultaneously getting those scripts ready. I will reveal more details about it after the release of Juliet 2,” he adds. Produced by Likith Koitan, under the PL Productions banner, the film also stars Ravi Kalabrahma, Srikant, Roy Badiger, Kush Acharya, and Radesh Shenoy in various roles. Juliet 2 has music scored by Sandeep Ballal and Rajath Rao. The background score is by Sachin Basrur and Shento Vato has handled the cinematography.

‘Laughing Buddha’ movie review: A humorous, non-judgemental look at the everyday lives of police officers

Starring pramod shetty and diganth, the rishab shetty production ‘laughing buddha’ is more enjoyable for its empathetic take on the stressful lives of police officers than for its sub-plot involving a mysterious criminal.

A way to a man’s heart is through his stomach. Constable Govardhan (Pramod Shetty in an impressive performance) knows this more than anyone else at the Neeruru Police Station in Shivamogga. Tempted by the delicious food offered by Govardhan in the jail, all types of prisoners — from robbers to assaulters — confess to their crimes.

Director Bharath Raj’s  Laughing Buddha,  produced by Rishab Shetty, has a drastic shift in genre when compared to the filmmaker’s debut outing  Hero,  a slasher film mixed with comedy. On the other hand,  Laughing Buddha  is mostly a gentle comedy about the everyday lives of a policeman with action taking a backseat (no complaints about that!).

Govardhan is a standout in the police station because of his ability to solve cases with a smile, whereas his boss loses his cool at the drop of a hat. The film pulls you into its world through a breezy first half that reflects the relatable yet ignored problems of police officers; an episode on burnout is well-written as it focuses on the family members of cops, who are the most affected by the unpredictable nature of the profession.

Meanwhile, Govardhan’s wife (Teju Belawadi) loves how he relishes food. You understand his special relationship with food going by how he eats with sheer happiness. Now, imagine letting go of something that you are most attached to. Govardhan is faced with this situation when a journalist’s critical observation of the fitness of officers in Neeruru station upsets the higher-ups.

An overweight Govardhan is asked to get into shape or think of another profession! For a while, Bharath Raj makes us believe that Govardhan’s transformation journey is the film’s core plot. But the twist leading to the second half splits  Laughing Buddha  into two different films.

An insulted Govardhan is in demand again to solve a case that requires his intelligence more than his physical toughness. Here, the portions involving Diganth lack solid humour and get stretched beyond necessary. Thankfully, Diganth does well to keep the mystery around his character intact till the climax, and Vishnu Vijay’s brilliant music, with his beats in superb sync with the actions on screen, salvages the second half. Even if the thriller angle doesn’t get a strong payoff, Bharath Raj ends the film on a high, bringing smiles back to our faces.

Another filmmaker might have made a movie on the relevant subject of custodial violence revolving around the senior officer who beats his prisoners black and blue. But Bharath Raj’s film is from the point of view of cops, and the director has done justice to his intention of portraying them as humans first.

Laughing Buddha  takes a hopeful look at the overall system. The film’s non-judgemental outlook is evident in the depiction of criminals who commit crimes thanks to unjust and utter desperation. As for the cops, we often hear stories of police officers being asked to lose weight or quit; some even get shifted to health camps. The issue should be dealt with empathy as the officers often struggle to cope with stress and mental health issues, say Bharath Raj and team.

Laughing Buddha is currently running in theatres.
