What is a personal narrative essay?

Think of writing a personal narrative like writing and directing a film. Choose an engaging story from your own life with a message (the essay’s theme). Map out the plot with a narrative arc, including the introduction, rising action, climax, and conclusion. Engage your reader with lots of descriptive language, and take time at the end to reflect on what you learned from the story and how it affected your life.
