websites like task rabbit

Taskrabbit is a popular gig marketplace that began in 2008. And these days, the platform has more than 1.1 million reviews and thousands of ‘Taskers' across the world.

However, there are plenty of other sites and gig apps like Taskrabbit that you can use to make quick money on the side. That's why this post is covering some of the best Taskrabbit alternatives that are on the market to help you get started.

Table of Contents

1. Thumbtack

Thumbtack is one of the most popular odd job apps that helps handyman professionals find new leads and clients .

Taskrabbit monetizes by taking a 15% fee on all jobs. In contrast, Thumbtack uses a pay-per-lead model to charge contractors. In fact, contractors use job targeting to tell Thumbtack which jobs to push their way.

Thumbtack-app

If a job matches exactly what you're looking for, you pay for the lead. Setting up automatic payments grants a 20% discount. If the job is a partial match, you only pay if you accept the lead.

Ultimately, the whole Taskrabbit vs Thumbtack debate isn't exactly a fair one. Taskrabbit is awesome for part-time side hustlers , while Thumbtack is the perfect platform for professional  contractors looking to pay to expand their business.

If you offer high-ticket services, I strongly recommend checking out Thumbtack as a Taskrabbit alternative.

2. Care.com

If you want to find on-demand work as a babysitter, nurse, or pet-sitter, Care.com is one of the best Taskrabbit competitors you can use.

One of the most important parts of finding housekeepers, babysitters, or nurses is trust . Thankfully, Care goes above and beyond in their screening process, making it a go-to platform for customers .

care-on-demand-jobs

Customers can request background checks on potential caregivers, but caregivers also have control. By following a few basic steps like having a background check, responding to messages, getting an approved profile photo, and getting 3 reviews, you can earn CareForce  status. This status will cause you to appear higher in search results and rank on local leader boards.

Jobs on Care pay pretty well according to Indeed, and this platform definitely beats out other on-demand gig websites for this line of work. You can read our post, is Care.com worth it and legit – for all the details.

Another one of the most popular apps like Taskrabbit is Steady , a gig economy job marketplace.

Once you download the free Steady app, you complete a short side hustle questionnaire to help the platform learn more about you. From there, Steady matches you with gigs that suit your income goal and skill set.

Steady gig app

Examples of popular jobs you find on Steady include :

  • Food delivery gigs like making money with DoorDash or Uber Eats
  • Temporary work jobs in your city
  • Remote freelance gigs and micro task websites
  • Retail jobs
  • Driving gigs
  • Grocery delivery gigs like making money with Instacart
  • Caregiving jobs
  • Cleaning gigs

According to Steady, its users earn an additional $5,500 per year on average through these sorts of hustles. Apps like Steady are ultimately an easy way to get in on the gig economy action.

If you want to get paid to walk and make over $20 per hour in some markets, Oppizi is the app for you.

This new gig app pays you to deliver flyers to people in your city. It pays up to $23 per hour in the United States, and it's also available in over 70 cities and 10 countries .

Oppizi

You claim available shifts as an Oppizi Brand Ambassador, with most shifts being around 3 hours. This means the gig is slightly less flexible than many gigs on Taskrabbit. However, you get paid hourly, so you know how much you're making.

Oppizi is also a great side hustle if you don't have a car . It also pays you weekly for the shifts you complete, and its hourly pay is quite high.

Jobble is an on-demand marketplace that is highly focused on the gig economy. And if you want a more traditional job board feel, it's an excellent site like Taskrabbit to try.

This marketplace is still a great way to make money doing odd jobs, but it's far less related to housework or handyman-type tasks unlike Taskrabbit or Thumbtack.

Jobble

The most common job categories on Jobble include event staffing, hospitality, retail, transportation, and general labor.

However, Jobble has recently started to scrape local job boards from what I can tell. If you visit the Jobble Job Board and enter in your Zip code, it's easy to find local results or to use keyword and distance filters

Once you create a free Jobble profile and upload some information about yourself and a resume, applying to jobs is very easy. This is probably the main benefit of using this app in the first place since it's really just a local job aggregator.

Handy is one of the most similar apps like Taskrabbit around, and it's definitely possible to make some solid money with this platform.

As a Handy Pro, you can make money with general handyman tasks, furniture assembly, cleaning gigs, TV mounting/setup, and similar household tasks.

Handy-Pro-Signup

However, Handy also offers plumbing and electrical work, which are definitely the highest paying job categories on the platform. This platform is available in many cities across North America and the U.K. just like Taskrabbit.

To work with Handy Pro, you need prior experience. However, Handy is  not  an employer. The platform just connects independent contractors to customers, so there aren't too many requirements.

7. Mystery Shopping Apps

One category of apps you can use as a fun side hustle option are mystery shopping companies .

For example, apps like Premise and Gigwalk pay you with PayPal cash for completing short tasks around your city. These tasks include simple jobs like taking photos of buildings or confirming the price of in-store items.

Premise-Data-contributor

You can also earn money by completing short surveys or by visiting numerous stores. Overall, they're a pretty easy way to make money while you're out running errands or when you're exploring your city.

Apps like FieldAgent and Shopkick also have some similar gigs if you like this category of Taskrabbit alternatives.

If you want to make money working in hospitality and haven't had luck applying to restaurants or hotels in person, Staffy might be a perfect alternative to find work.

Staffy wants to provide hospitality workers with flexible, well-paid gigs, and they do a solid job at that. And the app makes it easy to find same-day or short notice work opportunities in your area and to set your own rate.

Staffy

The Staff job board also makes it easy to filter for jobs in your area or to look for specific gigs. Email filters are also an option if you want live updates on when new jobs are posted.

Staffy is only available in the U.S. and Canada. Additionally, you must provide a resume, references, and a photo that proves you are eligible to work in the given country.

However, Staffy is free to use since it's up to restaurants and hotels to foot the bill (getting last-minute shift help is worth the cost). Plus, once you complete 5 shifts and have a 4.2+ rating, you're eligible for StaffyPay.

  • General labor

10. NextDoor

Nextdoor isn't so much of an on-demand job marketplace or pure lead generation marketplace. Rather, Nextdoor is designed to connect residents, business owners, public agencies, and contractors who happen to live within the same neighborhood .

Nextdoor

As a business owner or independent contractor, you can create a free Business Page on Nextdoor that describes exactly who you are and what services you provide. This lets you showcase your services to people in your area.

This system is similar to paying for leads on websites like Thumbtack, although you aren't guaranteed to get any interest. This could be cheaper or more expensive than simply buying leads, depending on how skilled you are at marketing and how worthwhile your deal is.

According to Nextdoor , the average local deal costs $75 to promote. If you run a local business or want to reach more customers with a cheap test run, this is a great platform to try out.

When  it comes to ways to make money with a pickup truck or cargo van , Lugg has to be near the top of the list.

Lugg is an on-demand moving and delivery company where you can help people in your community to earn extra cash. According to Lugg, if you own a truck, you can earn up to $2,500 per week!

Lugg-moving

This is probably on the high end, but according to Indeed, Lugg drivers earn around $35 per hour! You also keep 100% of your tips which is pretty awesome. Plus, you can sign up as a helper if you don't have a truck, so there's still money on the table.

Here are Lugg's hiring requirements :

  • Have a recent smartphone
  • Be 18 or older
  • Be capable of lifting at least 100 pounds
  • Have strong communication skills with customers

Papa provides on-demand senior living assistance for families and individuals. Like Taskrabbit, Papa helps families and elderly people hire freelancers to help with everyday tasks.

Papa-Pal

As a Papa Pal, you can help elderly folk with jobs like:

  • Getting groceries and running errands
  • Driving people to appointments or wherever they need to go
  • Providing conversation
  • General house tasks

You manage all of your appointments and clients through the Papa Pal mobile app. There's also a virtual companionship side of the platform where you can make money online by chatting with elderly people.

I can't find exact payment information on Papa, but the website states the top Papa Pals earn $3,000 per month .

Like Taskrabbit, you also set your own schedule, so these gigs are rather similar. Taskrabbit still has more service categories, but if you specialize in elderly care, Papa Pal is a better platform to start with.

If you run a professional service like handyman work, renovations, or painting, joining Porch could be the best options for your business.

Porch helps homeowners find reputable services for things like home security systems and internet plans.

Porch-Pro

But, Porch also lets homeowners contact service professionals for help with projects like :

  • Handyman work
  • Electrical work
  • Plumbing problems
  • Windows and doors
  • Appliance moving or repairs

Porch is also similar to Thumbtack and Takl and lets service professionals buy leads to try and get more business. You also get to create a services page that lists what you offer, your testimonials, and work preferences like the areas you service.

To become a Porch Pro, it's $360 per year. Porch Pro gets you discounts on buying leads, a verification badge some homeowners trust you more, and also gives you some automatic leads.

This is expensive, but if you're struggling to find business, Porch might be a lead generation system that's worth trying.

Tips For Making Money With These Apps

Now that you know some of the best Taskrabbit competitors, here are a few tips that I've found helpful over the years to help me make more money with gig apps:

  • Stack Several Apps : Create a side hustle stack with several apps like Taskrabbit so you maximize your gig opportunities.
  • Track Income & Expenses : Always track your income and expenses so you're ready to file taxes as an independent contractor. I suggest using mileage tracking apps like Everlance if you end up driving regularly for gig work.
  • Set An Income Goal : Decide how much money you want to make with these types of gigs so you can hold yourself accountable and track progress.

I also made a video that covers some guaranteed ways to make $100 a day if you want even more ideas similar to Taskrabbit that you can use to boost your income.

What's The Best Alternative?

The best Taskrabbit alternative depends on how serious your side hustle business is. For example, you can use apps like Steady if you just want a part-time side gig. But you can use platforms like Thumbtack and Nextdoor if you have an actual contractor business and want to pay for leads.

Also note that these apps and sites like Taskrabbit are just a few ways you can make money in the gig economy. There's also gig jobs like driving for DoorDash or jobs like Instacart where you can earn a steadier hourly wage if you're most interested in stable pay.

My main piece of advice is to pick one platform to start out with to avoid stretching yourself too thinly!

10 Best TaskRabbit Alternatives 2024

TaskRabbit is a website and app that allows people to earn money from everyday, small gigs . People can hire others to do their laundry, pick up something from the store, clean their house, deliver a package, fix a broken appliance, and more.

Like TaskRabbit, there are several other platforms on the market that offer similar services. Thumbtack , Craigslist , and Angi to name a few. The best TaskRabbit alternative is Handy as it offers abundant of options for both workers and people who want services. The rates on Handy are reasonable too.

More about TaskRabbit and why look for alternatives

2. thumbtack, 3. craigslist, 5. homeadvisor, 6. neighborly, 7. houzz pro, 9. instawork, 10. amazon mechanical turk, wrapping it up: what is the best alternative to taskrabbit.

Whether you need to put a table together or mount a TV on the wall, you can get help on TaskRabbit. At the same time, if you want to earn some extra money doing random tasks, TaskRabbit is a great place to go.

However, TaskRabbit isn’t for everyone. For one, it charges a pretty expensive service fee, both for Taskers (workers) and customers .

In addition, there are some other things you might not like about TaskRabbit. It requires all Taskers to go through a background check, which means you can’t start sending proposals immediately.

There are tasks you can’t find on TaskRabbit, especially online gigs. If you want to work from home , TaskRabbit isn’t really for you – you’ll need to interact with other people.

If you own a service company instead of working individually, TaskRabbit might also not be for you. There are better places to advertise your services and find customers.

The general advice is not to put all your eggs in one basket. If you are looking for work, relying on TaskRabbit alone isn’t the best idea. There are some good alternatives to TaskRabbit, as mentioned above.

Stick around if you want to know more about them.

Best TaskRabbit Alternatives

websites like task rabbit

Handy is sort of the eBay of home services. Services popular on Handy include:

  • Home cleaning
  • Furniture assembly
  • Electric work
  • Office cleaning
  • Home sanitization
  • Flooring repair
  • Deck installation
  • Basement remodeling

A significant difference between TaskRabbit and Handy is that while Taskers on TaskRabbit can set their own rates, Handy determines how much you earn.

Handy will set an hourly wage for you, depending on the job you are doing. Your tier can also influence your hourly rate; by getting better reviews and completing more tasks, you can start earning more.

Because rates are fixed, you won’t have to negotiate with people trying to lowball you and pay you less than what you deserve.

Of course, certain workers earn more than others. Cleaning houses won’t earn you as much as doing electrical work, for example; skilled workers can always earn more.

To illustrate, here is what you may earn as a cleaner. Rates can vary based on location as well.

As a worker, that means you don’t have to compete with other workers lowering their rates in an effort to get more jobs. That can be a race to the bottom that can make it hard for gig workers to earn decent wages.

It’s also better for customers, as the tier system incentivizes workers to do good jobs.

One thing worth noting is that Handy charges a variety of fees and penalties for incomplete or poor work.

Some of the most common fees that workers end up paying are the late cancellation fees and the no-show fees. If you cancel a job (as a worker) less than 48 hours before your appointment, you will have to pay this fee, which will get more expensive as you get closer to the appointment time.

The no-show fee applies if you are more than 30 minutes late.

Another fee that might make some workers take a small pause is the late arrival fee. This fee applies if you don’t make it to your appointment on time.

However, it makes sure the system runs smoothly. As a customer, it helps you avoid wasting time on workers that show up late – accountability is important.

As a worker, you can avoid this fee simply by leaving for the job early and accounting for traffic and other delays.

There are some other fees, which you can check out here .

Handy does require a background check, and this can take some time. As a customer, though, it means that the people coming to your house have been screened – you are safe.

websites like task rabbit

Thumbtack is an excellent place to find gigs.

You’ll find a lot of companies on Thumbtack. In other words, as a customer, you will typically be working with a home services company rather than an individual gig worker operating on their own.

That is a major difference: Thumbtack is geared towards companies, rather than individuals looking to make a quick buck occasionally. If you have several contractors, for example, who work for your plumbing company, you can advertise on Thumbtack as a company.

Many customers on Thumbtack are looking to establish long-term relationships with companies. For example, many people look for lawn mowing services – such customers can keep hiring your company, time after time.

If you own such a company, Thumbtack may end up being a better choice than TaskRabbit over the long run.

Other kinds of services you can advertise on Thumbtack include:

  • House cleaning
  • Moving services
  • Tree trimming
  • Wedding catering
  • Appliance maintenance
  • Dog training
  • And a lot more!

websites like task rabbit

As a customer, it also means that on Thumbtack, you may see more professionals instead of unlicensed workers.

Thumbtack also works quite differently than TaskRabbit . It doesn’t take a commission off what you earn; instead, it charges you per lead.

In other words, sending job quotes can cost a small fee, depending on the price of the job. This may work out better for your company, depending on the percentage of leads that turn into long-term customers.

You can set your base price, but Thumbtack still allows for customization. You can charge more if the job requires it.

websites like task rabbit

Not everyone knows that Craigslist can be a great place to find people to do simple jobs for you . As someone looking to make extra money, it’s also a great place to browse available gigs.

The best part about Craigslist is that it is entirely free to use. You will never have to pay anything to join the platform or respond to job requests.

You will also never have to pay a commission on your earnings, unlike TaskRabbit.

Craigslist has an entire section dedicated to gigs and another section dedicated to jobs. Let’s focus on gigs first, because many are short-term or one-time jobs, like on TaskRabbit.

You can browse all gigs, or you can browse specific types of gigs.

websites like task rabbit

There are different gig categories on Craigslist.

Jobs like house cleaning, dog sitting, and domestic help usually go under the domestic gigs category. Things like landscaping, law mowing, and furniture assembly typically go under the labor gigs category.

You can also find event gigs – catering jobs and the like – and talent/creative gigs, which can include acting, interviews, and so on. Simple things like handing out flyers, testing products, helping people move furniture, and attending focus groups are all common on the Craigslist gig section.

You don’t need to register to use Craigslist. Just start browsing gigs in your area, and reply to any gigs that catch your interest.

You can use Craigslist on a desktop, but the mobile app is quite user-friendly, albeit simple.

One thing worth noting is that if you’re looking for writing gigs or computer gigs, you don’t necessarily have to put in your real zip code. Many of these gigs can be done entirely online.

Therefore, if you live in a small town in the middle of nowhere, inputting the zip codes of major cities can help you find online surveys, writing, SEO, and other digital gigs.

Another section worth looking at is the jobs section. Listings in that section typically focus more on long-term jobs, both full-time and part-time , rather than one-time gigs.

Nevertheless, you can still find one-time jobs on there, so it’s worth a look. You can look through all jobs or browse specific categories, such as:

  • Customer service
  • Manufacturing
  • Engineering
  • Human resources
  • And many others

As a customer, posting a job offer on Craigslist is also free.

Of course, since Craigslist doesn’t have any signup process, anyone can post or respond to job offers, without any verification done on them beforehand. That’s why Craigslist has a reputation for scams.

However, many of the jobs are entirely legit. Businesses and individuals don’t always have money to post job offers, and workers can’t always afford to join premium sites like TaskRabbit that charge signup fees or commissions.

Do your due diligence, and don’t work for someone you can’t trust. Set your own guidelines and policies for how you get paid, and meet in a public place if necessary.

One thing worth looking out for are people advertising “make money online” schemes. Often, they don’t even own the products or programs themselves but are rather promoting an affiliate link, not wanting to spend money on traditional advertising campaigns.

As a hirer, vet the worker you are hiring beforehand. Ask them to provide some credentials, references, or something else that can help you feel more certain that they will do a good job.

Angi is an excellent alternative to TaskRabbit worth looking into. If you haven’t heard of it, you may have heard of the name it used to go by: Angie’s List.

On Angi, you can find professionals for all kinds of jobs, such as:

  • Landscaping
  • Pressure washing
  • Basement proofing
  • Land surveying
  • Exterior painting
  • Gutter cleaning
  • Electrical work
  • Carpet cleaning
  • Appliance repair
  • And other home improvement jobs

For businesses offering various home improvement services, Angi is better than TaskRabbit. It allows you to advertise your services, run promotional ads, send quotes, send invoices, accept payments, and even connect your Quickbooks account for accurate accounting .

The well-designed Message Center and Leads Board make it easy to communicate with potential leads and customers. You can even get reports that break down your advertising campaigns by calls, quote requests, and claimed jobs.

As a customer, you can use Angi for free – there’s no need to pay anything. However, if you do sign up for the premium membership, you can access exclusive discounts and other perks.

You can also pay workers directly through Angi Pay, with a credit or debit card, which also comes with special satisfaction guarantees.

websites like task rabbit

Another excellent alternative to TaskRabbit is HomeAdvisor. It is powered by Angi, but it is a separate site.

Professionals and businesses looking to advertise their services would be well advised to advertise on HomeAdvisor. As a customer, you’re more likely to get high-quality services from licensed professionals, and it could also be a way to avoid the fees associated with buying services on TaskRabbit.

Businesses pay a small fee for every lead. Be aware that not every lead will turn into a customer.

As a customer, using HomeAdvisor is free. HomeAdvisor makes money from professionals who advertise their services and pay for leads.

Neighborly is a lesser-known alternative to TaskRabbit. On Neighborly, you can find residential, commercial, and auto help.

Plumbing, handyman, home inspection, appliance repair, and even asbestos testing services are some of the available services on Neighborly.

Neighborly works a bit different from TaskRabbit, though. Instead of advertising your services on Neighborly, you can get a chance to franchise one of their brands.

The Neighborly family of brands includes:

  • Five Star Painting
  • Glass Doctor
  • Mr. Electric
  • HouseMaster
  • Mr. Handyman
  • Window Genie
  • Mr. Rooter Plumbing

In other words, whether you want to go into the painting, plumbing, or any other type of home improvement service industry, you can start a Neighborly franchise. That can be very profitable, due to the brand recognition many of these brands have.

There are over 29 brands in total, and there are around 5,000 franchises altogether.

Costs are clearly laid out on this page . You’ll pay a franchise fee, and you may also pay a territory fee; you can also see total estimated investment costs.

You can either start your new franchise or take over a franchise from an existing seller looking to sell it.

As a customer, you can use Neighborly to find services from qualified, licensed professionals. You won’t have to worry about screening them.

  • Create a cost catalog for your services, so customers have no hidden surprises

Upshift is an interesting alternative to TaskRabbit. Instead of connecting workers with individuals looking for domestic help, it connects you with businesses looking for part-time or one-time gig workers.

As a worker, you get to pick when you work, as well as where. Just log onto the app and find available shifts in your area.

It’s perfect for when you’re in between jobs or when you have some extra time after work that you want to make use of. If you’re saving up for a vacation and want to work extra without committing yourself to a job, Upshift is for you.

There are even full-time jobs available on Upshift, though many people only use it for part-time work .

websites like task rabbit

One cool thing about Upshift is that since you will be working for businesses, you will get a chance to update your resume with real work positions and experience.

There is another major difference between TaskRabbit and Upshift. When working on TaskRabbit, you aren’t actually an employee of TaskRabbit.

On the other hand, when working for Upshift, Upshift actually employees you. That means you will get a W2 from Upshift.

At the same time, there are no minimum work requirements. You can work as many or as few hours as you want.

You can work up to 40 hours a week – but if you get approval from a client, you can work more. Upshift will start you off by paying you weekly, and you can eventually upgrade to getting paid every day.

websites like task rabbit

Unlike TaskRabbit, Upshift won’t take anything out of your earnings. It is 100% free to use as a worker.

Upshift makes money by charging businesses fees for successful work.

That is also how Upshift gets money for worker’s compensation insurance, employer taxes, etc. Remember, Upshift is employing you directly, not as an independent contractor but as an employee.

What type of work can you find on Upshift? Pretty much everything!

You can work as a:

  • Housekeeper
  • Kitchen staff
  • Restaurant server

The downside of Upshift is that not everyone gets accepted. According to Upshift, only 12% of applications end up in employment.

However, if you pass, you will have access to lots of jobs.

As a business, Upshift can be a great place to find qualified staff for one-time, short-term, and part-time positions. For example, if an employee calls in sick for a week, you can use Upshift in the meantime.

Upshift claims to have a less than 2% no-call, no-show rate. Perhaps that is why it is so careful about whom it takes on as a worker.

websites like task rabbit

Another good alternative to TaskRabbit is Instawork. It connects businesses with part-time and gig workers nearby .

It allows you to work on a larger variety of jobs than TaskRabbit would allow, giving you an opportunity to gain more experience in various industries and build your resume.

websites like task rabbit

You have full flexibility in how much you work. You can log on and accept shifts as per your availability.

Businesses get a way to connect with skilled workers nearby when they need some extra help, without the costs of hiring a full-time worker when not needed.

One of the best things about Instawork is that it has a section with entry-level shifts (availability varies based on location). In as little as a few minutes, you can sign up to Instawork and start accepting these entry-level jobs, which require no experience.

For higher-paying and more skilled work, you may have to upload certificates, licenses, etc.

Amazon Mechanical Turk, also known as MTurk, is a great alternative to TaskRabbit if you are looking for online gigs and jobs . Like TaskRabbit, it allows you to work on one-time and short-term projects, allowing for complete flexibility.

Amazon created Amazon Mechanical Turk as a crowdsourcing solution for the outsourcing market.

You can usually do the jobs on Amazon Mechanical Turk from your laptop or even your phone. Some of the more common jobs include:

  • Filling in data
  • Completing surveys
  • Moderating content
  • Transcribing audio
  • Writing content

Many of the jobs are fairly easy to do and do not require any special skills.

However, the downside of Amazon Mechanical Turk is that the competition can sometimes be high, so it can be hard to get jobs – or at least the good-paying ones. In addition, the pay is often low.

Although the tasks might be simple, some of them do require a lot of time.

The best alternative to TaskRabbit for home services is Handy. There are plenty of jobs and workers available, and you won’t have to negotiate on price.

For other jobs, I recommend checking out platforms like Craigslist, Upshift, and Instawork. Having a presence on a few platforms can give you access to more gig opportunities .

Taskrabbit Competitors: 8 Alternatives for Lead Generation

Taskrabbit is an online marketplace and mobile app where consumers can find local service providers for jobs such as handyman tasks and yard work. For some home services contractors (in particular, independent contractors or small businesses), the app can be an option for finding leads.

But Taskrabbit tends to be used more for one-off tasks, like furniture assembly or moving, rather than providing loyal customers who return to you time and again for their plumbing or HVAC services. That’s why many home service providers look for Taskrabbit competitors.

In this post, we’ll cover 8 websites that are like Taskrabbit.

In addition, we’ll explain how our software solution, ServiceTitan, offers alternative ways to attract potential customers, track leads, and convert them into actual booked jobs where customers are more likely to stay with you long-term.

You can skip straight to the ServiceTitan section here .

What is taskrabbit.

8 Taskrabbit alternatives

How ServiceTitan helps you generate leads & book jobs

Taskrabbit is a site that matches handy people and contractors (known as “Taskers”) with consumers searching for particular home services in their local area.

While it was started for handy people looking for extra money in the gig economy, Taskrabbit offers a whopping 50 categories of services in seven main areas:

Outdoor help

Home repairs

For a registration fee of $25 (applicable in eligible cities you register with), you can sign up for the categories that apply to your business in your specific location(s). Taskrabbit will ask you to confirm your identity and to submit any business verifications, if required. Once you’ve completed your profile, you can set up your weekly availability including opting in for same-day jobs, if you wish.

Your profile details (including skill set, hourly rate and any reviews from past customers using the platform) can be viewed by local clients searching the site for your services. Taskrabbit’s user-friendly mobile app (compatible with iOS and Android) lets you chat with prospective clients and manage and track jobs as well as payments. Contractors can submit invoices via Taskrabbit and get paid through the app’s secure payment system.

Although Taskrabbit includes home services like plumbing and electrical work, it focuses more on one-off tasks and odd jobs, like fixing a leaky faucet or mending a light fitting. So, while it could be a useful source for small businesses and independent contractors just starting out — or to make extra income during the slow season — it typically isn’t very effective for finding long-term, loyal customers wanting more heavyweight home services, like an A/C installation or a bathroom refit, for example.

For those, you need to have solid fundamental business practices in place (like the ability to track and measure all of your marketing channels and to deliver outstanding customer service) along with the ability to deploy more established marketing activities (like email campaigns and Google Local Services Ads).

That’s where our software solution, ServiceTitan , can help.

First, here’s our list of eight stand-out Taskrabbit alternatives.

8 Best Taskrabbit Alternatives

1. care.com.

Care.com is a site that’s predominantly used to help people find babysitters, housekeepers, and caregivers for the elderly. But it also has a small section for hiring people for errands and odd jobs, like general home repairs and maintenance.

The advantage of using this Taskrabbit competitor is the jobs generally pay well, but not without an upfront investment. To see and apply for local jobs, service providers have to become Premium Members. With a Premium Membership, providers rank higher, get job alerts faster, and are able to more easily communicate with potential clients.

Given the extremely small portion of this app devoted to home services, the value of that investment will probably depend on what mobile apps people tend to use in your area for home repair and maintenance jobs.

Do more research on Care.com, its pricing, and how potential customers tend to use it before committing to the upgraded membership package.

Handy offers plenty of services through their website or app — users can book anything from home cleaning and general home maintenance to full-blown home improvement renovations.

Handy conducts background checks, and service providers must be approved before taking on jobs. They must have paid experience, be authorized to work in the county they’re located in, and have great customer service skills. Once a service provider is approved, Handy will begin to send leads.

This handyman app boasts a 60-second booking process , so once you’re signed up and approved, leads could come in very quickly.

Handy is available in the U.S., Canada, and the U.K.

Jobble bills itself as the number one on-demand job app in the U.S. It’s hard to verify the accuracy of that statement, but one thing’s for sure: It’s a great place to pick up new clients.

Although Jobble isn’t as focused on home services as Taskrabbit, users can view job listings in their area for free. After creating a profile, users can also apply to jobs without paying anything upfront.

This app doesn’t cater to residential needs and would instead be a good place to do some B2B work , like becoming the preferred plumber for an office complex, depending on the user’s area of expertise and the jobs available in their area.

4. Nextdoor

An app aimed at connecting communities, Nextdoor is the world’s largest neighborhood social community networking service. It’s a great way to help spread important information and for local professionals to connect with potential clients in home improvement, landscaping , lawn care , and other home services.

On Nextdoor, business owners can create a listing for their business and encourage community members to use and review their services. Businesses can also participate in local conversations and connect with residents who need their services.

Again, this is a social website first and a lead generator second, so it shouldn’t be the primary means to find new clients. But it’s not to be ignored, either.

Porch is an industry-leader for handyman apps, with an excellent platform that includes moving assistance, painting, electrical , lawn care , furniture assembly, and other part-time local services.

What’s great about this app is that it’s provider-driven. “Pros” (as they’re called on Porch) can set exact specifications for what type of jobs they want, and how frequently they want to buy and receive leads in the online marketplace.

This app also incentivizes quality for their pros. They offer a “Vetted Pros” program that includes a 5% discount on leads when purchased on demand. Vetted Pros also receive automatic lead credits when they meet the outreach requirements, yet don’t connect with homeowners.

6. TalkLocal

Primarily focused on handyman services, TalkLocal includes a few types of jobs-for-hire you might not expect, including legal, landscaping , and office furniture rental.

This handyman app offers service provider assistance on a level most others don’t. TalkLocal makes initial contact with users and coordinates job logistics, without you having to do a thing. You have the option to accept each job individually, but TalkLocal remains the point of contact for the users. Depending on how hands-on you like to be, this could be a great feature.

The app takes its service a step further by requiring service providers to only pay for leads they’ve booked.

7. Thumbtack

Whether users want to find a wedding planner or a welder, chances are they’ll find them on Thumbtack . This app features over 500 service categories across a wide range of industries and covers all 50 states.

As a service provider, you’ll like how this app offers geolocation to show users which providers are in their area. Thumbtack seamlessly enables professionals to market themselves as individuals or as local businesses.

This handyman app is free to join, and service providers can set preferences for where, when, and how they want to work so you only receive the leads you really want. And there’s no shortage of leads on Thumbtack — the app generates more than 30,000 leads per day.

Although not specifically geared toward handyman services, Wonolo is still a useful resource to establish new relationships with potential long-term clients. The growing staffing company is available in more than 30 cities in the United States.

Wonolo users have to be 18 years old, and they also must have a Social Security number. This could be a barrier to those without one or who do not wish to share their information. But a clear benefit is the ease of use, which makes it comparable to Taskrabbit.

The #1 newsletter for the trades.

ServiceTitan Helps Home Service Businesses Generate Leads & Book Jobs

Using Taskrabbit (or any of the other apps like Taskrabbit) could bring your service business a few one-off jobs and/or may be useful for filling in gaps during slow seasons. But to secure a solid pipeline of leads that results in booked jobs, repeat business, and a loyal customer base, you should have these five business fundamentals in place:

Use tried-and-true marketing practices like email marketing, Google Local Services Ads, and direct mail — all trusted lead generators.

Ensure you can convert leads into actual booked jobs with a reliable and repeatable call booking process.

The ability to track leads from all marketing channels so you can measure results and analyze what’s really working (and what’s not).

An efficient way to optimize customer reviews so that they help drive customers to your business.

Deliver awesome customer service from beginning to end so your customers return to you time and again and recommend you to their friends.

We built our software, ServiceTitan , with tools to help home service professionals (like HVAC , plumbers , electricians , and landscaping businesses) do all of this. Here’s how it works.

Use Tried-and-True Marketing Methods

As we mentioned earlier, Taskrabbit may generate a few leads for small, one-off jobs. But using tried-and-true marketing methods like email marketing and direct mail are deployed by many service businesses for one reason — they usually drive more highly qualified leads to your business than apps like Taskrabbit.

In addition, managing customer reviews won’t be an issue until you have a steady stream of incoming leads.

ServiceTitan’s Marketing Pro has been designed to help home services companies deliver tried-and-true marketing campaigns that will bring you more business. Here’s how:

Deliver Hyper-Targeted Email Marketing

Targeted email campaigns are among the most effective ways to attract business, earning $40 for every $1 spent. Aside from being a low-cost marketing channel (there’s no incremental cost of sending emails), marketing to people who already know you is more effective than “converting” strangers (from apps like Taskrabbit) so it’s a sound method of generating more work for your business.

ServiceTitan's email marketing feature allows you to send hyper-targeted email campaigns by segmenting your email audience by ZIP code, age of equipment, date of last service, new homeowner, and more. Using data already collected in ServiceTitan, you can target previous customers with a “We Miss You!” email campaign, follow up with existing customers on unsold estimates, or offer a discount to new homeowners.

Sending targeted emails with ServiceTitan is simple. Choose from our huge range of email templates, adjust the text to fit your campaign, and deliver to your chosen audience.

You can monitor the performance of your email campaigns via the ServiceTitan marketing scorecard .

You can read more email marketing tips in this post .

Leverage Direct Mail

Likewise, using traditional direct mail to attract business from your local community works well for many service businesses.

SeviceTitan’s Marketing Pro lets you automate direct mail campaigns that attract business in your local area. Choose from our library of postcards and send out a single postcard, or thousands, and pay a flat fee per item.

As with the email campaigns, you can select your audience from your customer lists — for example, those who have equipment that’s due to be updated — and send them a postcard reminding them of your equipment replacement services. Upload your chosen design, adjust the text, print, and mail to your selected audience.

You can track the results of your direct mail campaigns via the ServiceTitan dashboard and see which ones are driving revenue.

Drive More Leads with Google Local Services Ads

Google Local Services Ads are a cost-effective way to drive leads to your business, and ServiceTitan’s Google Ads integration simplifies the entire process.

Buying Google Local Services Ads increases the likelihood of your business appearing at the top of the Google search results page, above the PPC ads and organic listings. This means potential customers can view a snapshot of your business — such as your company name, Google review rating, and years in business — to determine whether your company fits their needs.

Costs for Google Local Services Ads vary, but you only pay when a customer contacts your business through the ad. This cuts down on job leads from customers who are simply price-shopping.

ServiceTitan integrates with Google Local Services Ads to allow homeowners to directly schedule online appointments with your company, and provides business owners with ROI metrics on every campaign. This makes the whole process easier for the customer and improves the chances of them booking an appointment with your company.

Convert Leads into Actual Bookings

Whichever marketing channels you choose to generate leads, it’s critical to convert those leads into actual booked jobs when those customers contact your business.

Providing your CSRs (customer service reps) with a clear, repeatable process for when customers call your company, is a good way to achieve that repeatability and increases the chance of them making a booking.

ServiceTitan’s call booking software helps CSRs provide a polished customer experience as soon as they answer the phone . Our software shows them who’s calling (if they are an existing customer) so they can greet them by name, which sets up the entire call on a friendly, open basis. Whether they are an existing customer or a potential one, CSRs can use our customized prompts to ask the right questions and ensure they get all the information your techs will need quickly and efficiently.

Having an efficient call booking process in place ensures customers (new or existing) are given a stellar experience from the first moment they call your business.

Track & Measure All Marketing Channels

An issue with using apps like Taskrabbit is that when you choose to expand your marketing to several channels (like the ones we recommend above ), it’s difficult to know  where your leads are coming from when customers contact your business, and which ones translate into actual jobs. You need software that tracks and analyzes each one.

ServiceTitan helps you make informed decisions on which marketing activities to focus on (whether that’s Taskrabbit, Taskrabbit alternatives, or channels like email marketing or direct mail). Our software offers campaign tracking telephone numbers and real-time ROI reporting for all your marketing campaigns.

For each campaign, you can track the number of calls, how many jobs you booked from those calls, and the number of sales made from those jobs, all from your ServiceTitan dashboard.

With ServiceTitan, you can view your metrics via our marketing scorecard , which shows your current marketing campaigns (email, direct mail, Google Local Services Ads, etc.) and ties all new customers to the specific marketing campaign that brought them to you.

Because the scorecard ranks all your marketing channels by revenue, you know exactly how much business you’re getting for every dollar you spend so you can boost spending on campaigns with higher returns and drop channels with poor performance.

Optimize Customer Reviews

In our experience, and that of the thousands of home service businesses that use ServiceTitan, managing and replying to your customer reviews (good or bad ) is critical to your business, because customers place a great deal of importance on them when choosing a service provider. Not only does this apply to the reviews that you’ll receive on Taskrabbit (if you choose to use it) but also other online platforms such as Google, Yelp, and Angi.

However, managing reviews is often a task that slips to the bottom of the to-do list, simply because it’s time-consuming and tedious, especially when the reviews are in several different places.

ServiceTitan’s Marketing Pro helps make this process more efficient by collecting reviews from all of your platforms so you can manage and reply within ServiceTitan.

Our software helps:

Generate more reviews with automated requests: ServiceTitan sends out survey requests via text or email as soon as a job has been completed. This encourages customers to share their experience while it’s still fresh in their minds.

Consolidate all your reviews in one place: Set up alerts so you can read and respond to reviews from all your review platforms ( Yelp , Google Reviews , and apps like Taskrabbit), directly from the ServiceTitan dashboard. This saves time because there’s no need to go into each review site individually and customers receive responses more quickly.

Track and match reviews to specific techs & jobs: Because all your review data is stored centrally within ServiceTitan, you can see exactly what’s working and what’s not, and use these insights to reward or coach individuals.

Keep review listings consistent and updated: There’s no need to frequently check and update company listings on apps like Taskrabbit because ServiceTitan ensures your company details are accurately listed across 60+ business listing sites. This means search engines will correctly attribute them to you and customers can easily find you. You can try our free listings scan tool here .

Note: We recommend you set up your Google Business Profile if you haven’t already, especially if you’re a small business — it’s free and it will increase your chances of appearing at the top of Google searches.

Deliver Awesome Customer Service

Without a doubt, delivering awesome customer service right from the first point of contact through to the delivery and billing of your services is the most important way to attract customers and grow your service business.

Travis Ringe of ProSkill Services , a $14 million full-service home services company in Arizona with more than 5,000 5-star Google reviews, explains that his CSRs and techs go above and beyond by always offering to do more, such as providing ladder service to help elderly customers change lightbulbs or smoke detector batteries, or simply bringing the trash can from the curb.

Not only does this increase the probability of your customers using you again, but they’re also more likely to recommend your services to their friends and family.

In addition to our call booking tool, ServiceTitan also helps you deliver exceptional customer service with these features:

Scheduling and dispatching features that match the right technician to the right job and ensure they arrive on time.

Automated texts that confirm appointment times and provide customers with links to their tech and a GPS tracker so they know who is coming and when.

Estimate and proposal templates that techs can build while on a job and show to customers via a mobile app .

Customer financing to help customers choose what’s best for their budget.

Payment processing tools with flexible and convenient payment options for customers.

All of these tools are fully integrated and communicate with each other so you never have to spend time transferring information from elsewhere.

Ready to Generate More Leads with ServiceTitan?

Top 9 TaskRabbit Alternatives & Competitors: Best Similar Freelance Platforms

There was a time when it was hard to find a person to help you around your home. Sometimes the hustle and bustle of life won’t let you do your groceries, hang your new TV, or assemble new furniture. However, this is easily solvable if you have the money and the right app. One such app is TaskRabbit. It aims to connect you with people willing to do the tasks that you don’t have the time to do or just don’t want to do. But of course, this isn’t the only app that can do this as there are many other TaskRabbit alternatives out there.

To help you expand your options, we have compiled some of the best freelance platforms on the market. We will be providing you with the benefits that each app has to offer, so you get a better idea of what to expect from them. We will also give you an overview of TaskRabbit so that you can better gauge which platform will suit your needs.

An Overview of TaskRabbit

TaskRabbit is an online marketplace that matches available freelance labor with the demand for them in various localities. For those in need of help with tasks, it connects them with the right “taskers” safely. And, the promise is that these taskers have been vetted and background-checked out of thousands of applicants. Like some of the best shopping cart software on the market, this lets you browse through marketplaces. The only difference is, instead of goods, you select the best taskers for the job you have available.

Leah Busque, its founder, based her template for TaskRabbit on the idea of “ neighbors helping neighbors. ” In this way, freelancers can find gig opportunities with ease, while employers can connect with professionals who can work on their available tasks. These opportunities include handyman services, interior painting, help moving, yard work, grocery shopping, and light installation, among others.

Acquired by IKEA in 2017, TaskRabbit still keeps its operations separate. However, it has launched a furniture assembly service so that it can also cater to IKEA’s customers.

You can access the TaskRabbit marketplace via its website or its mobile phone apps for Android and iPhone users. The user interface is self-explanatory, and booking taskers is as easy as it gets.

TaskRabbit is a secure online marketplace where employers can hire professionals for their projects and freelancers can find great gig opportunities.

Reasons to Look for TaskRabbit Alternatives

Currently, app users rate TaskRabbit higher than 4 out of 5. More than 4,600 Android users rate it as 4.2, while 9,800+ iPhone users rate it to be 4.7. However, there are apparent issues. These involve users complaining about a high price tag for not-so-good service. It also involves a few suggested tweaks like not having to re-sort taskers by price like low-to-high instead every time (it goes back to recommended taskers).

These are somewhat minor complaints as indeed there will be trouble when it comes to online marketplaces. One common problem is that apps like TaskRabbit won’t find a perfect match for your requirements like schedule, skill-level, and budget. But, again, this is ubiquitous among digital marketplaces.

However, if these do somewhat turn you off and you would like to look for TaskRabbit alternatives, you have come to the right place.

Top Alternatives for TaskRabbit

In this section, we’ll list the best marketplaces and apps that you can use instead of TaskRabbit. However, they don’t come in any particular order as many here are specialized. We just included the apps that have great usability, a wide range of services being provided, and those with an extensive local presence across the US.

Fiverr is one of the best TaskRabbit alternatives if you have a business that needs both creative and professional services. Popular industries on Fiverr include digital marketing, gaming, real estate, podcasting, ecommerce, political campaigns, architecture, and influencers. Of course, this includes website design, writing jobs, translation jobs, music and audio production, programming, and many more. Fiverr mostly houses professionals such as website builder experts, social media managers, and others whose work is mostly digital.

The website is also very easy to use. The app is very intuitive, as well. However, its main difference is that you can’t find people for yard work and the like on the site. For these types of chores, you either have to go to TaskRabbit or one of its other alternatives.

2. Angie’s List

Angie’s List is a top TaskRabbit alternative for home improvement projects. Popular services include roofing, plumbing, electrical services, landscaping, housecleaning, and painting, among others. Also, it doesn’t stop there. Angie’s List also has other offerings like pets services, health services, auto-related services, and many others.

Users enjoy how the platform is straightforward. Furthermore, it is easy and free to join. Business owners can also have a portal to create their profiles and gain more feedback and reviews. Angie’s List also provides a communication module for service providers and customers to easily connect. Lastly, it also has apps for both Android and iPhone devices.

3. HomeAdvisor

Similar to Angie’s List, HomeAdvisor is also one of the top TaskRabbit alternatives. However, its unique selling point is its hyperspecialization on homeowner services. Projects on HomeAdvisor range from snow removal to demolition. Furthermore, what’s great about this platform is that it pre-screens local professionals and rates them.

However, unlike Angie’s List and TaskRabbit, its user-interface is not too great. In all honesty, it kind of reminds us of a free forum site. Despite this flaw, it is highly functional and very professionally done. That said, it gets the job done and done well. With HomeAdvisor, you can easily connect with top pros and businesses to help you with your home improvement needs.

4. Pro Referral

Just like TaskRabbit, which is backed by a big company, Pro Referral is supported by The Home Depot. It allows businesses and pros to create profiles and even post their portfolios. This marketplace also connects service providers and customers quite easily using simple “near me” queries. Popular projects on the platform include contracting, landscaping, painting, carpentry, and electrical work.

Moreover, Pro Referral is also available via Android and iPhone apps. The apps, like the website, are beautifully designed and simple to navigate. You can quickly find pros with skills that match your project specifications, including your budget. You can also communicate with them on the app. So, when you don’t find anyone available on TaskRabbit or Angie’s List, go check out Pro Referral.

Pro Referral is a TaskRabbit alternative backed by The Home Depot. It primarily focuses on home improvement-related services such as landscaping, carpentry, electrical work, and more.

Takl is another good alternative to TaskRabbit. Also, like most marketplaces here, it has apps for both Android and iPhone users. Created in 2015 by CEO Willis Johnson, Takl connects people who need household chores done with people who can get them done well. Popular tasks include house cleaning, junk removal, lawn care, pet care, and moving.

What’s great about Takl is that unlike other marketplaces, chores are pre-priced and pre-defined. So, you wouldn’t be blindsided by estimates. Also, just like other apps here, you can pay via Takl so you wouldn’t have to worry about cash.

6. Thumbtack

Thumbtack helps you connect with professionals in your area for tasks and projects. Service providers range from lawn care experts to DJs. Also, you can use its website or the apps for iPhone and Android. What’s nice about Thumbtack is that it has a wide range of available local professionals listed just like TaskRabbit. It also has a vast array of service areas as well.

You can contact event organizers, wedding planners, electronics installation experts, and many more. Plus, the apps and website designs are done well. They are clean and easy to understand. So, if you need to find professionals not available on TaskRabbit, you can use Thumbtack.

Rapidfy is a marketplace built for professionals. It makes choosing pros easy by letting you get multiple quotes at once. Furthermore, a differentiator between other marketplaces is that it is a popular go-to place for people who want to learn new skills. These include swimming lessons, ballroom dancing lessons, foreign language teachers, and many more.

Lastly, it has apps for both iPhone and Android. However, one downside with this marketplace is its service area. Its iPhone app is not so popular as well. So, it is best as an add-on to TaskRabbit rather than a true replacement.

8. Field Agent

Field Agent lets you connect with agents–the equivalent of taskers in TaskRabbit. However, the focus is quite different. Field Agent specializes in connecting customers with agents that can help provide businesses with data like retail information, shopper insights, and even product demos. Moreover, agents they supply do retail audits, market research, online ratings, product reviews, and the like. This is all available via its iPhone and Android apps.

So, Field Agent is a business intelligence tool for data discovery and analysis. The agents are customers that you can get important insights and answers from. Thus, you won’t find Field Agent useful if you just want home chores done. It is for data-driven businesses and not for personal use. Of course, you can take the role of an agent if you have the time and interest.

As its name suggests, Handy is a marketplace app designed to connect with handymen and handywomen in your area. Just like other top apps in this list, it vets and checks the background of its professionals. In this way, you won’t worry about skill level and security. Typical tasks and projects marketed in this app include home furniture assembly, TV mounting, home cleaning, and setting up smart home electronics.

However, Handy is somewhat limited to these types of tasks and projects. It is not like TaskRabbit or Rapidfy with many available services. Also, Handy’s Android and iPhone apps have lower ratings and usage than that of TaskRabbit. So, it’s not necessarily an alternative. Instead, consider it as an add-on.

Handy is an online marketplace where customers can find handymen and home cleaning professionals.

What’s The Best TaskRabbit Alternative?

That’s a question that you can answer for yourself. Just like the apps above, their usefulness depends upon market demand. So, the best alternative to TaskRabbit for you will depend on what you need from the marketplace. However, the ideal rational customer will likely go through all these marketplaces to find the best deal and professionals out there for their needs.

But, if you are representing a business, there are great alternatives here for TaskRabbit. For instance, Fiverr and Field Agent best suit business needs.

Of course, there are common issues being shared by these marketplaces. These are geographical availability, undercutting, higher price points, and the like. So, be sure to keep these in mind before you leverage these platforms.

To conclude, if you are just a new entrant as a provider or a customer, these marketplaces are great platforms to put your services or needs out there.

Alternatively, if you are looking to sell some of your products online, we also recommend checking out some of the best ecommerce tools on the market. This way, you can further reinforce your business in case you offer both goods and services.

13 Apps Like TaskRabbit: Do Odd Jobs and Make Money in 2023

TaskRabbit is a popular marketplace for gig workers.

It enables anyone to find help with errand running, handyman services, moving assistance, and other types of basic tasks. And if you’re on the worker side of the equation, you get to earn money performing these services.

It’s a great platform with a fairly high payout. But depending on where you live, you may not be able to secure enough work on TaskRabbit alone to meet your income goals.

If you’re looking for the best alternatives, check out these top apps like TaskRabbit.

What is TaskRabbit?

TaskRabbit is a platform that connects busy people with local “taskers” that can help with various jobs. These jobs include things like:

  • Grocery shopping
  • Babyproofing
  • Help moving
  • Personal Assistant
  • Home Repair

In a nutshell, i t’s a local service marketplace.

One of my favorite features is that as a tasker you can enter your location and the service you’d like to offer to see what the going hourly rate is. From there, you can decide whether signing up is worth your time.

The other big benefit of working on TaskRabbit is that the work is 100% flexible. You get to set your own availability and choose the jobs you want to do.

If you want to sign up with TaskRabbit, the process is pretty simple.

First, you’ll need to meet eligibility requirements – be at least 18, pass an ID check, live in an eligible city, and provide your social security number. From there, you’ll be able to build out your profile.

Your profile is where you showcase your expertise and experience. It’s also where you’ll be able to set your schedule availability and hourly rate.

Clients can then search your profile and hire you if they think you’re a good match for them.

The biggest downside to TaskRabbit is that there may not be enough work in your area to keep you busy. If that’s the case, you can find more work with one of these 13 apps.

13 Best Apps Like TaskRabbit

1. Thumbtack 2. Wonolo 3. Jobble 4. GigSmart 5. Handy 6. Staffy 7. Zaarly 8. GigWalk 9. FancyHands 10. Humanatic 11. EasyShift 12. PeoplePerHour 13. NeedTo

1. Thumbtack

Apps like taskrabbit - Thumbtack

Thumbtack is a platform that connects people looking to hire with service professionals of all kinds.

They have professionals on their platform that offer everything from wedding planning to gutter repair.

Getting started is completely free.

As a service professional, you’ll sign up and then build a profile that showcases your past work and lists the types of jobs you’re willing to do. Then, when a potential client in your area searches for a professional, your profile will pop up.

You’ll only pay a fee if you book a client through the Thumbtack app.

Apps like taskrabbit - Wonolo

Wonolo is a super cool job app that anyone looking for flexible work should download.

Here’s how it works:

When a business is short-staffed or needs to hire someone for a specific task, they’ll post their job opening details on the Wonolo app. As an app user, you’ll be able to scan through jobs and select any that work with your schedule and skills.

This allows you to try out many different types of work and fill in your spare time with paying jobs.

Some of the most common gigs you’ll find on the Wonolo app include:

  • General labor
  • Food production
  • Event staffing
  • Warehouse work

The jobs are all temporary or part-time. Once you complete a job, the employer will confirm, and they’ll release payment in 1-5 days.

Apps Like TaskRabbit - Jobble

Jobble is an interesting platform that’s a mix of TaskRabbit and traditional job boards.

To get started, you have to create a profile. After creating your profile, you can do a job search through the millions of gigs listed on Jobble.

These gigs are a mix of flexible work, temporary jobs, and full-time gigs.

Jobble caters to independent workers, so most of their jobs and resources will be geared toward independent contractors and freelancers.

4. GigSmart

Apps Like TaskRabbit - GigSmart

GigSmart is an app that focuses on helping local businesses fill their hiring needs.

As a worker, all you need to do is download the app and create your account. You’ll then be able to browse local job listings.

You can search for and choose the work you like.

GigSmart has flexible positions, part-time or temporary positions, as well as full-time roles. However, what they’re most known for are their hourly shift gigs.

Shiftgig jobs are generally one-off shifts you can work when you have spare time.

Apps Like TaskRabbit - Handy

Handy is a gig marketplace that focuses on house cleaning and home improvement services.

To become a pro on Handy, you must have previous paid experience in the field you want to offer services in. Handy approves or denies all applications, so it may take a few days after applying before you hear back.

If you are approved, potential customers will be able to access your profile and availability when they search for services like yours in your area.

According to Handy, on their platform, house cleaners can earn up to $22 per hour, handyman service providers can earn up to $45 per hour, and landscapers can make up to $62 per hour.

Staffy

Staffy is a super cool app that allows users to find temporary or part-time work based on their available shifts.

Companies use the app to fill staffing shortages quickly.

To get started, all you need to do is download the Staffy app and create a profile. You can then search for and apply to jobs that fit your criteria. If approved, you’ll begin working.

You clock in and out through the Staffy app. After clocking out, they’ll pay you for the work you did that day.

Some of the jobs you’ll find include:

  • Event staff
  • Registered nursing positions

The downside is that the app is only available in limited US cities right now. However, as Staffy grows, that could change.

Zaarly

Zaarly connects homeowners with home improvement pros. Some of the pros on Zaarly specialize in things like:

  • Interior painting
  • Appliance repair
  • Chimney sweeping
  • Drywall repair
  • HVAC maintenance

If you specialize in anything related to home improvement, you can create a professional profile on Zaarly.

One big caveat, though: becoming an approved service provider on Zaarly is much more complicated than similar apps. (Which is great if you meet the qualifications and not so great if you don’t.)

To become an approved service provider, you’ll need to pass a criminal background check, go through a phone interview, provide business insurance verification, and provide customer references.

If you qualify, you can then create your profile which will become searchable. You’ll also have the ability to run ads to help your business grow.

GigWalk

GigWalk is an app that connects businesses with people who will complete errands for them. These errands usually include price checking, taking photos of products, or checking marketing materials.

Jobs vary and can pay anywhere from $3 – $100, depending on the time it takes to complete them.

To get started, download the app and create your account. Once you do, you’ll see a list of gigs available in your area. Then, you can apply to any of the gigs you want to do.

If a company accepts your application, they’ll notify you through the app. You can then complete the Gig and upload your work.

Once the company approves, they’ll pay via PayPal.

Just don’t expect the work off of this app to amount to a lot of income – the jobs you get will be very inconsistent and probably not pay a lot.

9. FancyHands

FancyHands

FancyHands is an app like TaskRabbit that has a focus on virtual work. It allows you to work from home completing errands posted by busy professionals and businesses.

Some of the jobs on FancyHands include:

  • Making phone calls
  • Scheduling appointments
  • Find the best prices
  • Booking travel

To get started, you’ll need to complete an application. Then, if approved, you’ll be able to start taking jobs off of the job board.

Each task pays $3 to $7, depending on the time it takes and the complexity. You can work as much or as little as you like. FancyHands issues payments every other Tuesday.

10. Humanatic

Humanatic

Humanatic is another work-from-home app like TaskRabbit. Only its focus is quite unique.

The last time you made a call to a business, did you hear a message that said something like, “we are recording this call for quality purposes?”

If so, Humanatic is one of the companies that listen to those call recordings.

Humanatic hires workers to listen to prerecorded calls and then answer questions to evaluate the call quality. They then compile these answers into reports and send them to the respective companies.

As a work from home call reviewer, you can work as little or as much as you’d like as long as there are calls in the backlog. Humanatic’s busiest times are from 7 am to 7 pm EST daily.

The application process is straightforward, and it doesn’t look like there are many hoops to jump through – mainly, you just need a Paypal account.

That all sounds great, right? Well, it turns out there is one BIG downside to this gig…

Pay is $1-$4.50 per hour.

So, this should be a very last resort gig.

11. EasyShift

EasyShift

EasyShift is an app that will pay you to do fun jobs around your city. These jobs include snapping photos of products, price checking at specific stores, and reporting product promotions.

You can work when you want or whenever there’s a job available.

All you’ll need to do is claim the job on the app to get started. Then, they’ll issue a  payment 48 hours after you’ve completed it.

12. PeoplePerHour

PeoplePerHour

Peopleperhour works like TaskRabbit only with a focus on online work.

Some of the categories on PeoplePerHour include writing and translation, programming, design, digital marketing, and business.

As a freelancer on this platform, you’ll need to create a profile that showcases your skills. From there, you can access job postings and submit your bids. They’ll notify you if you get the job and you can then complete your work and get paid.

NeedTo

NeedTo is a hodgepodge of remote and local gig marketplaces.

To get started, you’ll create a profile that showcases your skills. You’ll then be able to access where users post their “needs.” As a worker, you can bid on the needs.

You’ll be notified through the NeedTo platform if you get the job.

Some of the “needs” posted on this platform include writing, web design, house cleaning, home improvement work, errand running, and more.

Can You Make a Living Off of TaskRabbit and Similar Apps?

Most “taskers” use TaskRabbit as a side hustle or part-time job. But depending on where you live and the service you offer, TaskRabbit could be turned into a full-time job.

According to statistics provided by TaskRabbit, the average US “tasker” earns $35 per hour. That’s a high enough salary for most people to consider a full-time living.

The downside is that you might not always find enough work on the TaskRabbit platform to meet your income goals. Luckily, you can supplement by creating profiles and finding work on some of the apps listed above.

If you need to find more work, these apps like TaskRabbit can keep you busy.

The gig economy is likely to keep growing. So now is a great time to build your presence on a few of these apps so that you’re a top player in the future.

If you’re looking for the app most similar to TaskRabbit, try ThumbTack. From there, you can branch out depending on your specialty and the type of work you most enjoy doing.

Also, similar to TaskRabbit, the Handy on-demand staffing platform is serviceable throughout the UK and North America.

Staffy TaskRabbit Alternatives On-Demand Staffing Services

Staffy is the best TaskRabbit alternative and on-demand staffing service in the field of hospitality. It provides workers serving hospitality with well-paid gigs. The point is you can find additional hands-on short notice and set your rate as per the quality they guarantee to offer.

The Staffy platform offers a simple yet customer-friendly job board with enough filters to find jobs in your location or for a particular kind of gig. The Staffy app is available in the US and Canada and is free to use.

As a staff member, you will have to provide an updated resume, references, if any, a photo, and proof that you are eligible to work in the country. Also, Staffy pays you soon after the shift ends. You will be suitable for StaffyPay once you have finished five shifts at the least and have earned a 4.2+ rating.

Wonolo TaskRabbit Alternatives On-Demand Staffing Services

Wonolo is another app that offers on-demand services like TaskRabbit. When it comes to administrative and warehouse operations, Wonolo is much more robust than TaskRabbit.

Just like TaskRabbit and Thumbtack, Wonolo is simple and provides quick and easy access to jobs in several industries:

  • Administrative
  • Merchandising

Care TaskRabbit Alternatives On-Demand Staffing Services

Care is a TaskRabbit competitor when it comes to babysitting services. It finds quick, accessible, and available on-demand babysitters, nurses, housekeepers, and pet-sitters. Care goes through a strict screening process to provide a safe and secure platform for customers. Also, you can ask for a background check on a particular caregiver if you have any concerns.

As a caregiver, you can limit/control your access and gain a CareForce status by earning 3+ reviews, responding to messages, and getting your profile photo approved. When it comes to wage, it beats other similar on-demand gigs.

You can also sign in for its premium membership which offers a higher rank, job alerts, and effective communication with interested clients. You can choose either of the three plans-

  • $20 on a monthly basis.
  • $15 per month for a 3-month commitment.
  • $10 per month for a 6-month commitment.

9 odd jobs apps and sites like taskrabbit.

Table of Contents

Founded back in 2008, TaskRabbit is one of the most popular and well-trusted platforms for people seeking help completing tasks—or looking to complete them for cash!

The on-demand app revolutionized online job boards and the entire gig economy.

While skilled taskers and service professionals have been doing odd jobs for their neighbors since long before the invention of the internet, the TaskRabbit app has made it possible to streamline your income from odd jobs.

But it’s not the only service provider that does so.

Maximize Your Earnings with Odd Jobs Apps and Sites Early on, TaskRabbit was one of the only well-known and trusted odd jobs apps on the market. Nowadays, there are plenty of ways and other apps like TaskRabbit that can empower you to earn extra money from on-demand service in your spare time.

Here are some of the best and most useful odd jobs app options:

websites like task rabbit

One of the most popular alternatives to TaskRabbit, Fiverr is a website and app-based platform that enables sellers to offer gigs (services) to potential buyers.

The gimmick? You set your own price as a freelancer, beginning at a $5 dollar minimum.

The kinds of gigs vary widely, but remote work tends to rank among the most popular gigs offered. Some of the most common include:

  • Graphic design
  • Writing and editing
  • Business services
  • Marketing and advertising
  • Web design and programming

Many sellers will set up a baseline price of $5 dollars and then add additional fees for added features. For example, a seller might offer editing or proofreading starting at $5 dollars for one page of content, but then add $5 (or less) for each additional page.

Also, there’s a catch for sellers: Fiverr does keep 20% (a fifth) of your total fee. So, for each $5 dollar transaction, you’ll net out $4 dollars.

Another similar platform to TaskRabbit and Fiverr, NeedTo is a marketplace app aimed at answering a simple question for customers:

“What do you NeedTo get done?”

Users post needs, which include detailed explanations of the context and job requirements, including:

  • Specifications of work to be performed
  • Deadlines and schedules
  • Estimated budget

Then, job-seekers can pitch bids and compete to land the contract. Those who posted the original ad have the opportunity to select which professional service provider they entrust the work to. So, NeedTo is ultimately a way of empowering workers with more potential.

NeedTo is committed to empowering workers to end involuntary unemployment. To that end, the marketplace app donates 10% of all profits to local nonprofit organizations specializing in job training.

An interactive job board platform, Jobble calls itself “the marketplace for the gig economy.”

Unlike TaskRabbit, Jobble isn’t geared toward household tasks and errands. Instead, it focuses on local service industry labor. For example, some of the most common jobs posted include secretarial and general staffing in:

  • Restaurants, catering halls, and hotels
  • Healthcare and doctor’s offices
  • Retailers and boutique shops
  • Miscellaneous offices

Not all of this work is strictly freelance or contract-based. Jobble is less a marketplace and more of a seamless job aggregator and application portal. For job-seekers, it enables you to find local gigs, upload a resume, and apply for jobs all in one place.

Unlike most other platforms on this list, Jobble could be your ticket to long-term employment opportunities.

websites like task rabbit

A specialized jobs site, Handy allows you to sign up as a Pro and offer your services for set rates. As the name implies, Handy focuses on two main areas of work:

Handyman – You can earn up to $45 dollars per hour for jobs like:

  • Furniture assembly
  • Installations and removals
  • Repairs and general maintenance
  • Renovations and remodeling
  • Changing Tires or fixing cars

Cleaning – Cleaners can bid up to $22 dollars per hour for gigs like:

  • Deep cleaning and detailing
  • Home or office cleaning
  • Move-out cleaning

Handy boasts that its top performers earn over $1000 dollars per week! Payments are delivered directly by Handy, rather than the clients whose tasks you’re doing. After a task is completed and confirmed, you’ll receive payment shortly afterward.

There are other kinds of jobs you can sign up for, but the name says it all: this tasker app is mainly for handy, in-person work.

5. Thumbtack

websites like task rabbit

In contrast with some of the other apps and sites on this list, Thumbtack ’s business model revolves around leads. It’s a free app platform for expanding your business and earnings by paying for opportunities. As such, it focuses on people who are trying to make contracting their main or only source of income.

The way Thumbtack works is:

  • You sign up as a professional.
  • Then, you indicate what kinds of leads and jobs you’re interested in pursuing.
  • Thumbtack filters potential client’s queries and sends them to you, for a fee.
  • For exact client matches, you’re automatically charged.
  • Inexact matches only cost you if you choose to pursue them.

The flip side of this is that, unlike TaskRabbit or Fiverr, you’re not paying out a percentage of your actual earnings for the work. You’re just paying to get your foot in the door.

websites like task rabbit

Similar to Thumbtack, Zaarly is targeted more toward service professionals than people simply looking for an odd job here or there. However, it is a marketplace rather than a paid lead service.

Its main features include protections for customers. Zaarly has several distinct protective measures in place that set it apart from its competitors:

  • Professionals are vetted through a 9-step process
  • A $100 dollar no-show fee penalizes any pros who stand up customers
  • All work provided is backed by a $10,000 dollar refund fee

While these measures can make earning via Zaarly slightly less easier to get started, they pay off in the long-run. Its protections aren’t just for customers; they also enable you to charge higher prices with the confidence that your qualifications justify them. And Zaarly only takes 10% of your earnings, which is much lower than other tasker app competitors on this list and is a major perk.

websites like task rabbit

A more specialized platform, Upwork is ideal for anyone seeking more technical work to be done remotely, often on the computer. It’s also slightly higher scale than some other options.

Upwork focuses not on household tasks, but on larger-scale employers who need staffing and labor for bigger and more consistent projects. The listings can range from a small job to administrative tasks, to a massive project. On this odd job site you act more as a freelancer or independent contractor than as a job seeker looking to run errands for some passive income. Upwork connects these job creators to highly talented professionals and agencies. They then bid on the posted projects.

Some of the main kinds of jobs posted on Upwork include:

  • Web and software development
  • Content creation and design
  • Writing, copywriting, and editing
  • Analytics and research
  • Customer service

In addition to the basic, free account that job creators can utilize, there are also paid options that offer enhanced features, such as streamlined invoicing and dedicated managers and advisors.

This is a premium task service best suited for those looking to be their own boss and freelance full time.

8. Care.com

websites like task rabbit

Another specific, industry-based platform, Care.com connects caregivers to those who need their attention. This blows any babysitting job out of the water. It’s a one stop-shop for all kinds of domestic labor needs.

Founded on the principle that family care is vital to both human development and economic growth, the mission of Care.com is to ensure that all individuals and families have access to quality care, regardless of their scheduling and budgetary constraints.

Care.com enables skilled, experienced caretakers to provide services like:

  • Child care and babysitting
  • Tutoring and assistance with homework
  • Petcare, including walking and playing
  • Senior care and accompaniment
  • Housekeeping and maintenance

For those with experience in homecare, Care.com provides an excellent way to monetize work that too often goes uncompensated.

9. Amazon Mechanical Turk

websites like task rabbit

One of the most unique work platforms online or off, Amazon Mechanical Turk ( https://www.mturk.com/ ) is a crowdsourcing engine that allows job creators to outsource small tasks to a wide network of individuals, all of which are working remotely from a computer.

It’s the closest thing to automation for tasks that still do require human labor.

In practice, it’s a system for turning spare moments at the computer into incremental earnings that add up over time. Individuals working on MTurk can expect to take on small jobs as varied as:

  • Survey completion and processing
  • Data entry and basic analysis
  • Reading and reporting
  • Quality control

By breaking up larger projects into many small individual tasks, job creators can disperse work to many individuals at once, paying each worker according to how much of the task is accomplished.

Individual tasks are typically short and can be finished in as little as a few minutes. Likewise, the rate of pay is low, sometimes measured not in dollars but cents.

These spare cents for spare minutes can add up to significant sums over time.

Complement Your Earnings with Savings

best alternatives?

So I might get modded off, but feel free to DM me with replies. Long story short, I wasn't aware of the recent increase of the service/safety fee to a mindboggling 35%. That's insane. I know there are a bunch of alternatives out there -- handy, thumbtack, etc -- but haven't tried any of them. What do people feel is the best alternative? Thanks in advance.

Edit: appreciate the illuminating discussion surrounding TR pricing structure, but would really appreciate thoughts on what people feel a good alternative to TR is!
